Hi everyone,
I recently joined College Confidential for some advice on writing a personal statement for re-admittance after being dismissed. I couldn’t find any specific threads on the topics so I figured I’d create one myself.
For some background information, it’s been about five years since I was dismissed. I knew I wanted to go back eventually and finish my last four semesters. I never had the desire or motivation to until now. I was dismissed for poor academic standing. Mainly, I stoped attending my classes more and more until I just never went and it obviously affected my grades.
I have a decent rough draft going on the personal statement. I’m struggling to come up with an intro and an ending paragraph. I think mainly because I don’t know what the expected format should be. Should it be written as a letter? Should I acknowledge the committee/ thank them at any point?
I’m also struggling on how to fit in an “action plan outlying intentions for academic success”. Should this also be in paragraph form? Should it include what I plan to do from day to day to improve or is it looking for what I plan to do from semester to semester? Is it looking for my study habits or my academic goals?
Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.
