College recruiting juniors

My son is a junior and the quarterback for the football team. He has been receiving alot of mail mainly from 3 different D1 colleges. We also went to every home game at one of them on prospect tickets. My question is does anyone know how much mail is typical for a junior. I dont want us to be mislead to think these colleges are extremely interested and in reality all football players that are any good at all are getting the same amount. If anyone that has gone through this could enlighten that would be great!

Welcome to the world of football recruiting! This is the time when many prospect letters are sent out to many student athletes. If you would like to pursue this D1 football program, start by sending an email to the coach in response to his letter and fill out the prospective recruit form on the school’s website. You will need your son’s transcript and any SAT /ACT scores he has , if he’s already taken them. Also, do you have a highlight film in the works from his junior year?
It’s also the time to honestly assess what kind of football program is most appropriate for your son. Is he definitely D1 material athletically? How are his grades? Would the Ivies be a possibility? Perhaps a highly selective academic D3 school is a good fit?
Talk to his coach to get an honest assessment and best of luck! There is a lot of great information on football recruiting on CC!

Thanks for the advice. We have already sent out 1 highlight dvd and he has been receiving mail since I think maybe September of 2010. I just was wondering if all the mail he is receiving is normal for a junior recruit. He has probably 100 envelopes. Some are letters, some anoucements, and some just with quotes and things like that. Is this because they are really interest or is he just on the mailing list? I mean I dont think he is just on their mailing list really, cause we were invited to several games with prospect tickets. So I think they are interested but just dont know if all junior recruits are getting the same amount of mail he is.

QBMOM13 : My son also received a lot of letters. Now is the time for your son to pursue the coaches by contacting them. See which schools have summer camps/prospect days. Check out NCAA recruiting rules for the different divisions, unofficial vs official visits, when coaches are allowed to contact prospects etc. It doesn’t matter how many letters you get now. What matters is who your son eventually hears when the appropriate time comes.
