A rep from a top college’s admissions office visited my school today. The top kids in my class were invited to the presentation, and throughout his speech we all asked questions, etc. Afterward, he approached me, asked for my name and email, and put a big star next to my name on the signin sheet. He did this for a couple other kids, as well. Does this mean anything? When I apply to this school, will I get an added bonus because the admissions officer was impressed by me? (Or am I just over-analyzing?) Keep in mind that I go to a podunk public school – we don’t get any interest from top-notch colleges very often!

Take it as a positive sign and a bit more. I suspect you asked some Qs that were different from what he has heard numerous times before. Something make him connect the dots with you, so I would think that it is worthy of at least a follow-up review of their web site and a visit to their section of this CC site.

I would suggest you do that and then post back on this thread with your impressions and, if you are comfortable identifying the school, asking others to weigh in on their thoughts regarding the school…and then settle in over the next couple of days to watch the drive-bys…8^)

It’s kind of like asking if all the mail you get from colleges means anything. They only know one demension. Reps visit for different reasons. Theey visit a full range from feeder schools to ghetto schools. You’ll get entered into the data bank and it will be a sign of interest that you were there, but everything else will need to be in line too.

Unless its a really small school, I doubt theyll remember you - they might just send you a lot more mail.

OK, to catch you up:

The guy sent me an e-mail asking if I wanted more info. I could tell it was obviously a personal note, written out in a hurry. (He’s a rep from Harvard.) So I guess that answers my question: As you suggested, Suze, I’m sure that he wants at least one person from my school to apply, and tapping me as someone who’s interested ensures that Harvard will get a range of applicants from all over.
