College rescindance

Hey all, not sure how this forum works but I had a question. I am an international student, who is studying IB. I have a 42/45 predicted currently. I think its a bit too much and I should be predicted like 38 at max but oh well. I sent out my college apps with this score (I applied to ivy’s and t20s ). The problem is that I have chronic migraines, and sometimes I get a flare up that lasts for 2ish weeks (I have visual aura/numbness in hands and sometimes I can pass out). I will probably get such a flare up during exam week (or mby even 2 weeks). And there is a chance that my grades will suffer because of that (lets say harshly I will get like 32). Will the college acceptance be rescinded?

Can I explain my situation to colleges and provide medical documentation of my illness, or will a migraine episode be a bad explanation towards my crash in grades.

I just want to know what to expect, because there is a chance I will get such a flare up and I am stressing about it

A 32 vs a predicted 42 will be problematic, and you should expect the college to request an explanation.

But it’s February. It’s pointless to comment on what might happen when exams are in May. No college will rescind before it reads your response to their question. In this situation, under absolutely no circumstances should you contact them in advance to explain.

Okay, thank you! But they do look at explanations seriously, right? Because I have heard that they do it purely out of curtesy and rescind the acceptance anyways…

I am very sorry to hear you suffer from migraines.

I know someone who had them nearly all the time, and I have no idea how this student managed. After starting on a couple of the new medications, however, episodes/duration have reduced from 25 days a month to maybe one or two. Even a shot or two of espresso now can hold them off.

Have you seen a specialist in migraines?

Thanks :). I have seen one yes. I had a really bad episode in august, I kinda passed out for a few seconds, and could not stop vomiting from the pain, so my mom dragged me to get an MRI done. Nothing was wrong, just plain old migraines. Got an ibuprofen 600 prescription though.

Refer to my previous answer. I’m not engaging in whataboutisms at this early juncture.

Your time is better spent, in addition to preparing for the exams, finding alternative treatment options. Since I have no experience with migraines, I’ll defer to experts. Good luck

I agree you should seek further treatment. Ibuprofen did not help at all.

I agree on seeking new treatments, ibuprofen is of little help in treating migraines for most people. There are many effective meds available for migraines in many countries They work for most people, literally stopping the migraine before it becomes severe.

Of course I don’t know your country, or how one might go about accessing a different treatment where you are, but for many, there is no reason you need to suffer from migraines, certainly not lose days or weeks of your life due to them. I hope you can find another option. Good luck.

I am confused. Were you already excepted to all of these universities?

Do you have medical accomodations? Could you take the exams at a different time if your symptoms flare up? My daughter also suffers from chronic migraine - be sure to do everything you can to manage your environment and avoid triggers around your exams.

nope, just a hypothetical situation

There is not really any medical accomodations I can have :/. I might be able to re-take exams in november, but that’s too late for me.
