College Research

I’m in CNS and I wanted to know if there are more research opportunities besides being inf FRI or honors freshmen year. Can I research my upperclassmen years rather than freshmen year?

There are plenty of labs that welcome undergraduate assistants. However, after FRI there won’t be any formal process to join one. You’ll just have to contact someone in the lab and ask them if they’ll take you on. Three common approaches to this are 1) ask your professor to work in their lab 2) ask a TA or fellow undergraduate to see if you can get into their lab or 3) email a lot of professors and see who responds.

Once you’ve got some upper division courses under your belt (i.e. by Junior year), they’ll be especially receptive to you. In any case, if you plan on doing research at all, you should join FRI.
