Seems like students would be only hurting themselves with this strike. At my Dâs school if tuition wasnât paid, students couldnât register for classes, get into dorms/buildings, or access their meal plan. And I would think international students would be at risk of being deported.
Unlike Barnard, Columbia seems to have few repercussions for non-payment. Oddly, students return and classes begin before tuition is even due. This isnât the first time thereâs been a âtuitionâ strike at Columbia.
Yeah, Stefanik is no foe of antisemitism and as I posted earlier, the worst mistake Jewish families could make is adopting an âenemy of my enemyâ approach to the present crisis. Antisemites and islamophobes are often the same people.
While I havenât read all of this thread, has anyone discussed the 60 Minutes piece (12/3/23) that compared and contrasted how Columbia vs Dartmouth handled this explosive situation?
It seems to me, people should be talking about how well Dartmouth behaved and how their leadership should be an example for the rest of the Ivies, rather than talking about the obvious shortcomings of their peer institutions.
Iâd also give a shout out to Wesleyan University, a similarly sized college/university hybrid where itâs less easy for stakeholders to hide inside various silos:
Somehow, I have the feeling that a lot of the participants in the anti-Israel, anti-Semitic coalition are not necessarily paying tuition. But this is a fantastic idea, because if you donât pay your tuition, you donât get to stay in college! In the memorable words of mayor Ed Koch, when the anti-semitic, corrupt UN threatened to leave NYC, âWeâll be down at the docks, waving you a fond farewell!â
Oh dear. If you look at the comparison of the original work to her work, itâs pretty damning that she plagiarized. An undergrad caught at this would have to go before the honor board. A PhD student caught at this would probably be thrown out of the program. No, I donât think that she will survive this.
