-Supervisor at Hospital(250+ hours) Top 50 in the Nation

  • HOSA (2 years) - Did not like this club much
  • Wrestling(2 years), Tennis(2 years), Football(1 year)
  • Volunteer at Hospital (Work in the E.R and recieved Volunteer of Quarter award)
  • Peer Tutoring for Math and Science (Idk how many hours maybe like 50)
  • I mentor kids that suffer from hearing loss and make sure that they are well prepared for whatever obstacle that is thrown at them. Currently advocating for them to make sure all of the ADA standards are up to date because when I was a kid I was behind on many aspects during middle school.
  • Leadership Opportunities for Deaf - Program for deaf people in DC (wanted to meet people with similar experiences)
-RIT sponsored me for 2 weeks in the summer so I can explore health careers and so on.
  • California Scholarship Federation Member (3 years)
  • Part of Lazarex Cancer Foundation (10 hours) - probably won’t include this but it was part of CSF

About me:
Profoundly deaf student in one of the top schools in California along with being the only deaf kid in my entire district growing up.

Highly interested in Medical field - decided to take nursing route

SDSU nursing and UCI Nursing are a Low Reach/Reach based on ACT score. CSULB Nursing is no safety but more of a Match along with Univ of Arizona. I think Barrett’s Honor’s college for ASU is a slight Reach.

I think the rest of the CA/AZ schools are correct. I suggest you retake the ACT and aim for a 30 or higher to be a more competitive applicant.

Good Luck.

Took the last one in June, possibly got a 30 or a 31 then.

Repost when you get your ACT score.

Out of curiosity, do you sign? Speak? Both? Because bi-literacy is a definite plus in any field. Many of my family and community members are Deaf and many of them say that being able to communicate with Deaf and hearing people has helped them a ton in their respective fields. I know ASL, so I can definitely attest to that.
Good luck!

I can speak and sign. I’ve been told my speech is extraordinary for someone with my hearing loss.

ACT - 30 Composite.

Will retake in September for a higher score.
