College search advice for my S

<p>Hello,
This is my first post on this forum. My S is a HS junior so just starting the search.
He is good academically with 3.555 UWGPA and 4.5 WGPA and is taking 3-4 AP courses this year and planning to take SAT next month. He loves playing cricket and has represented many local, regional, Southeast tournaments and has done very well. But, I am not sure if this carries any value on his college resume. Any thoughts?
He is planning to go to good Engineering colleges and apply for any merit based schoarships if possible. NC State, UNC Chapel hill, UNCC are some we’re looking at instate. Any suggestions on other East coast colleges with good Science or Engineering programs? </p>

<p>How about U of South Carolina? Georgia Tech, VA Tech.</p>

<p>Are finances an issue? Will you be able to pay the added costs of an out of state or private university?</p>
