College Search, Dual-Major Plan?

I’m having trouble setting my sights on some colleges. Currently I’m attending School of Science and Engineering Magnet High School and am taking many AP courses encompassing science, chemistry, computer science, english, social studies (basically I’m being prepared for a science and engineering college). However, my extracurriculars (passions I might add) include debate, theatre, band (marching and concert) (I can’t live without it!), National History Day, and UIL in various subjects. I really want to go to a college that has a STRONG debate team, STRONG music department (especially Jazz and Classical or the arts in general), and a STRONG science and engineering department. I want to find a college that will make me feel proud that I’m there, a college that allows a dual-major plan for someone who wants to major in Computer Science and Music (such as Composition/Performance/Theory), yet provides time for a student to participate in the college’s debate team and band (marching and concert if available). I’m sure there are a number of colleges that offer this criteria but I don’t know how to start searching. I also don’t mind campus size, but I do prefer to be in a non-racist environment, and I do not want a college affiliated with any type of religion. Please of you can list some colleges that offer these things and more.

I think you need to get real. Don’t mean to sound harsh, but college is not just a bigger high school. You cannot simultaneously double major in two disparate fields AND participate in multiple time-consuming extracurriculars.

That said, there are easily hundreds of schools that have strong STEM and strong music.

As has been said before in the forums, you will need to provide a bit more info for people to actually offer practical advice:

(1) Your profile says Dallas, TX. Just to be sure, are you considered a permanent resident of Texas?

(2) What is your financial situation? How much can your family contribute to your education? Have you had a serious talk with parent(s)? Will you need substantial financial aid? Have you and your parents played around with Net Cost calculators?

(3) What are your numbers? GPA (unweighted)? How many AP courses? SAT? ACT?

Without that data, the best I can do is point to USNWR and say take a look at the top 200 schools in each category.

Look at Northwestern. They have your criteria and many kids double major and still participate in all sorts of ECs. You would probably have to go in as a music major because of the audition required but double majoring is common.

I’m sure there are others but this is the one I thought of.

Good luck!
