Of course, I am talking to the financial aid department to see how I can get more money, and I am applying for every scholarship I can, but what are the best things to do during the track overnight visit to show that I love this school and need more financial aid?

<p>Were you given a partial head athletic scholarship?</p>
<p>Have you talked to the coach about your financial concerns?</p>
<p>keep in mind that any private scholarships you get might be for only for freshman year. That would mean that you’d still be short of money for your later years. </p>
<p>Is the $12k that you’re short a “gap” in aid? Or is some of it your EFC? What was your EFC?</p>

The $12000 is the gap from the EFC which is what me and my family can afford to attend the school. My financial package has already included a grant and some loans for about $15000 but I am surprised that I have not received any form of academic scholarship.</p>
<p>Actually, a similarly ranked college that I applied to gave me a $15000 academic scholarship - will mentioning that to financial aid allow them to give me more money in order to compete with the other school?</p>
<p>For the coach - I feel that I have to explain the entire financial situation with him during the overnight visit - should I give him the numbers or just explain how this is my absolute top school and if I get more money then I will attend?</p>

<p>Does the school offer merit aid? Where do you fall in their academic stats? I would certainly ask about that first, and of course you’ll want to let the coach know that this is they are your top choice but that you need this additional aid in order to attend. <p>Can you clarify? Are you saying that the $12k gap is your family’s EFC and they can’t afford to pay it? If so, how much can your family pay?</p>
<p>If so, then getting an academic scholarship may not help. Academic scholarships often replace “need based” aid. </p>
<p>You may have thought that you can stack a merit scholarship on top of your need based aid of grants to cover your EFC. It doesn’t usually work that way. </p>

<p>What else did this other school give you? If all they gave you was a $15k merit scholarship, then I don’t see how that would help you that much. It might help a little since your favorite school has only given you $15k in aid which includes loans. That suggests to me that your favorite school has given you about $10k in grants and $5k in loans.</p>
<p>You need to find out what will happen if you get the partial head athletic scholarship. Will they still include the grant, or will they reduce that?</p>
