After reading this, I’m going to buy a few books of stamps for my son to hand out to any student that needs one. No excuses!

I had no idea this was a thing. Both of my kids voted absentee during their college years and never mentioned this. They also figured out how to get their absentee ballots.
An even more frightening thought: What if they buy the stamps & put them in the envelope rather than on it !
Oh good grief! They’re in COLLEGE!! Is this the Onion.
I suspect it’s more laziness or inability (lack of car) in getting to a location. A simple google search is all it really takes to find out where.
My kids voted absentee, but I sent them off to school with a handful of stamps.
Stamps.com works too
Oh for heavens sake. You can buy stamps at most grocery stores. You do not even need to go to a post office.
My son tried to vote absentee the year he was in Jordan. The ballot got to him a full week after the election. Grrr.
Don’t forget that many states allow your college students to vote there if they aren’t voting in their home state.
If you notice some of the questions asked by new CC’ers here many students do not seem to know about google or that every college has a website.
@TatinG Sadly, that is not the Onion.
I sent my daughter off to college with stamps. Her freshman year I remember her selling one to a friend for his absentee ballot.
My kid voted absentee from Rwanda…with NO difficulties at all. One time was just a presidential ballot…the other was local “stuff”. She requested the ballot…it was sent to her…and the kid mailed it back.
One summer one of my kids was at a summer music festival all summer. We had three school budget referendums while he was gone…he voted absentee in all three, again no problem.
I’m not buying it. Possible? Yes. But very, very few college students are savvy enough to get an absentee ballot while simultaneously too ignorant to figure out how to google for stamps.
My guess? Just an easy excuse because they were too damn lazy to go vote.
Well, starting next year in CA, you don’t need a stamp!

I’m glad they don’t vote. My kid can’t even decide what’s for dinner.
Our absentee ballots are postage-paid. No stamp required!
I hired a young man who was a college grad from a decent college and was the lead guitarist for a country music star. This young man was newly married, wanted to get off the road and into a solid corporation. He did not know how to address an envelope. He didn’t work out for us, but does have a different corporate job and is doing pretty well.
College students or anyone can vote where they live (including where they live when attending college), but some states have ID requirements that can make it difficult for college students to satisfy if they do not do the paperwork well in advance.
Good! If college students cannot figure out where to buy stamps, they have no business to vote.
