College students, how did you get into your college?

I know it sounds like a strange thread, but my question to all colleges students is… What colleges were you accepted to and what did you achieve (that includes SAT, GPA, EC’s, awards, etc) during high school? And if you want, please write down what you think made you get in?

The reason why I made this thread because I know people who have gotten into UC Berkley with a horrible GPA, average SAT’s and a good personal statement, and I know people who did NOT get into good schools with perfect SAT’s, good EC’s, and a decent GPA. So yeah!

I didn’t get into any college that was a stretch for me. Part of it is because I didn’t apply to many reach schools. I really like that I am able to be successful, get scholarships, and be in the honors college at my current school. If I had gotten into UNC and attended, I’d just be a regular student with probably no merit aid.

Anyway, here’s my stats:

GPA:
3.8522 Weighted
3.2309 Unweighted

Class Rank: 70 of 308

Disciplinary record: Suspended for Academic Misconduct Freshman year

SAT: 1900/1250
CR: 700
Math: 550
Writing: 650 (8 on essay)

ACT: 29 Composite
English: 30
Math: 25
Reading: 35
Science: 27
Writing: 11
Combined English/Writing: 31
US/Comparative this year.

I applied in-state because of a combination of cost and medical reasons, here’s my list.

Schools I got into:
Appalachian State (honors college)
Greensboro College
UNC-Greensboro (honors college)
UNC-Asheville
Western Carolina University
NC State
Guilford College (waitlisted, then accepted)

Schools I was rejected from:
Elon University
UNC-Chapel Hill
Wake Forest University (waitlisted, then rejected)

I imagine the disciplinary record was a problem for those schools. Plus, they were all pretty much reaches anyway. I’d guess that it’s the only reason I was ever waitlisted at Guilford. My stats aren’t really amazing anywhere, so my guess is that the extracurriculars and essays that I spent a lot of time on got me the two honors admits.
