College Students: How Many Hours are You Awake Before You Start Your Day?

my general rule of thumb is about an hour ahead of my first class. it gives me leeway to where i can shower if i need to, or check e-mails/whatever else if i don’t. i don’t understand y’all that do homework that early in the morning… but i’m much more productive on or after midnight, so to each his own i suppose.

I get up at 6:00-6:30 everyday, even if I don’t have class till 3, gives plenty of time to do hw.

I try to wake up an hour and ten minutes before class but I always never get out until there 20 minutes later. I usually just whine, complain, and hope that I get an e-mail saying that class is cancelled during those 20 minutes.

During crew season I have about 2 hours between practice and class where I’ll eat breakfast, shower, and either do work or possibly take a nap. Out of season though, I’m more likely to wake up 10-30 minutes before class.

i only wake up early enough so that i get to class on time

Usually 2-3 hours. Either I’ll take a nice relaxed time getting ready/walking to class or I’ll be frantically whipping out an assignment due later in the day.

I commute (live off-campus), so I have to get up between 5 and 5:30 am for my classes which start MWF at 8:00 am and TTh at 9:00 am. So I have 3-3.5 hours between my waking time and the time I actually start class. Of those 3 hours, I RUSH to get ready for 1.5 hours (this includes checking to make sure I have all homework packed, packing food for the day, taking a shower, drying my hair, getting dressed, doing makeup, etc.), and then have to drive for about 1.5 hours. I am nearly falling asleep all day. Then I drive home for an hour. I’m home by 3 or 4 usually, try to do homework and study until 7 or 8. Then shower again (I’m sweaty and disgusting from running around all day and spending 4 hours in LABS every single day), then I end up falling asleep at about 9:00 pm, which is always a real treat when you want to go out with your friends. I am constantly miserable, and I spend my weekends trying to make up the readings, assignments, etc. that I didn’t have time to complete during the week. I do have a 4.0 though.

I live on campus and I get up about an hour before my first class (7:30 M/Th, 8:30 Tu/W/F). Although some mornings I do feel rushed, I find that it still gives me enough time to get ready and grab some breakfast with my friends before class. I wouldn’t want to wake up any earlier because I’m a terrible night owl and I would never be able to get to bed before 11.

For my 8:30 class, only a half hour before. For my 10:00 class, about an hour before.

I try to walk up an hour early, but since I live off-campus and don’t have a car I have to allot about half an hour for walking… so I really only have about 30 minutes in the morning (but at least since I live by myself I’m never late… I can set my alarm and put it all the way across the room so I’m forced to get out of bed to turn it off, haha). This quarter is nice though, I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays (and one discussion on Friday, but that’s only an hour long and not super early), so if I don’t get enough sleep one night I can always make up for it by sleeping in on Monday or Wednesday :)

^ Those are the best schedules. It’s either that or you have classes pretty late into the day so you can sleep in a bit longer. But thats also the best way of waking up by putting your alarm clock across the room since you’d obviously have to get your butt up.

Alarm is set for an hour before class starts. BY the time I actually convince myself to roll out of bed, brush, and change it’s probably closer to the 30 minute mark.
