College Students: How Many Hours are You Awake Before You Start Your Day?

I’m wondering what the collective is in regards to how many hours people are awake from waking up in the morning and starting their day; whatever that may mean, such as going to school or work.

Years ago I would wake up 30 minutes before having to rush to class at University, and was stressed out all the time, un-productive.

As of late i’m up about an hour and a half before having to drive to class, giving me enough time to enjoy my shower, cook a real breakfast, check up on emails leisurely and prepare for my day. Though admittedly think I could use 2 hours or even 3…but who has the time?

Especially when wanting at least 7 hours of sleep.

Tonight in itself has been a long night of studying and organizing things around, perhaps only giving me 7 hours of sleep if I stop typing now and doze off.

But…YOU?

As this article explains, some higher up’s have an early morning routine: http://finance.yahoo.com/expert/arti...adership/23188

during the school year i only wake up to go to school, work, or hang out. but right now during my 7 wk winter break (my first break in like 2 yrs) i usually sleep at like 7am and wakeup around 3-4pm. i like to be awake when my family is sleeping so that i can work on college apps and such while its quiet at latenight/early morning

The Link doesn’t work, can you re-post it or give the full title/author so it is web searchable?

I also have a 1.5 hour morning routine before going to classes. Wake up, breakfast, emails, top-5 or so website cruising. I also try to arrive on campus with a wide margin of time, often enough time for a coffee in the student center. By the time I sit down for a 9am class (having been awake almost 3 hours total by now), I am feeling social, relaxed, and I guess in a sense, self-pampered. It is as if my day-to-day cares have all been put to rest and I can just be totally focused on the classroom.

Same with me! I stay up and watch Angel on TNT. I seriously have the worst sleeping habits ever. During extended breaks, I become nocturnal. However, just recently (2 weeks ago) I’ve been sleeping really early and waking up early because I pulled an all-nighter. I essentially reset my sleep pattern and now sleep and wake up normally. I start school on Tuesday and hopefully I can keep this going.

if i have class around 8am i get up around 6:30 to be more alert ,shower, get ready, have breakfast with friends then rush to class. pretty much 90 min early

I try to wake up at 7am every day, my classes start either at 10am or 2pm, I use the time to study and try to eat breakfast.

Sometimes, though, I wake up a half hour before class starts and run. Can’t be perfect all the time! XD

At best, only an hour earlier. As the semester wears on, it becomes half an hour. I’ve tried setting my alarm clock earlier so that I have more time to get ready in the morning, but I just don’t have the willpower to stick to it. I set multiple alarms (the first and last alarms are usually an hour apart), but I always wait till the last one to get up. But I do try to get to class early. Since I live on campus, this is relatively easy. I like to get to class 10-15 minutes ahead so that I’m calm and collected by the time the professor enters the room.

Two or three hours early usually. I either do some homework or go workout before classes. And it’s actually really easy to concentrate on hard stuff like math problem sets early in the morning, for me as well as a lot of other people I’ve talked to. I guess your mind is just clearer then.

my first class starts at 1 PM… I still wake up at 9AM every morning, I study everyday from 10-12AM, that way, after classes I can do anything I want with my time

I wake up about 90 minutes before class starts. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to eat breakfast, brush my teeth, etc. I spend about 45-50 minutes walking to school, and I usually arrive at class around 20-30 minutes early.

Next week, I will be awaking at 6:30AM for an 8:00AM history class. Oh joy!

I try to wake up about an hour before class

This semester, I have an 8:00 MWF and a 9:30 TTH. I try to get up around 7:15 for MWF and 8:30 for TTH. Any earlier than that I just can’t do.

This quarter I have an 10am TTH and an 11am MWF Typically I wake up 8:30 for TTH and 9am for MWF. When I don’t have class I usually wake up at like noon.

Non gym days I wake up an hour before class to eat/shower. Gym days I wake up 3 hours before. 1 hour before gym, 1 hour gym, 1 hour shower/eat. Luckily my classes don’t start till 10 this quarter.

I normally wake up half an hour before class, regardless of what time it is. But then again, I also go to sleep around 3-4ish every night, regardless of when I have class the next day! Thank god that I have an 8am only once a week next semester!

I wake up about 20 minutes before class. A little bit more if my first class is outside of my dorm building.

I like to have 2 - 3 hours. I need some time to get fully awake before I do anything.

Today I had to be somewhere at 9 am. I got up at 6 am.

I’m not a morning person at all. I generally wake up fairly early (6 - 7), but I’m not really functional until after 10. I hate having early classes or early work. I’m in the process of trying to plan my schedule for next semester and I’m trying to decide if it is better to go just two days a week and start fairly early (10 am) or four days a week and start fairly late (2 pm).

8:30 for me. I normally go to bed at 1am or so. This leaves me with plenty of time to do some stuff that needs to get done.

I get to bed by 11pm every week night and wake up by 7am the next morning. My earliest class begins at 8:30am (MTWThF), so I take a brisk walk, shower, and eat before class. I don’t feel productive without an early morning routine.

About an hour or so before class. Make breakfast, catch morning news, brush teeth, leave.
