College Suggestions?

So I’ve always had this list of “potential” colleges that I’ve always wanted to get into, but after my junior year grades hit it pretty bad, I’ve decided that I need to expand my possibilities.

gpa: 4.4 weighted, 3.8 unweighted; not positive on gpa’s
act: 34 (psae results come in the summer)
type of school: competitive public; suburb of chicago
course load: very rigorous, average for a cc-er, I guess
freshman: enriched chem, ancient medieval history, enriched patterns, french 2, honors advanced algebra, chamber orchestra
sophomore: enriched physics II, enriched molecular biology, honors pre-calc, accelerated intermediate composition, french 3, ap macroeconomics, ap us gov
junior: ap physics c, ap bio, ap calc bc, french 4, us history through film, mediterranean history, ap language, english literature
senior: multivariable calc, international relations, military history, ap chem, french 5, ap lit, western literature
ECs: the usual, the only ones that really stand out are church activities and violin

note: I also got into USC this year under their resident honors program, but decided not to go due to various circumstances… So I’m hoping they’ll accept me again in the fall?

Are there any schools that would be a match for my type of stats? I’m interested in international relations and then go to medical school. And it’d be nice if the school had a decent music program.

Thanks everyone!

With a 34 on the ACT and a good GPA, I don’t understand what you are worried about. You should get into USC again. Is it a special program that you are worried about? Other than USC- how about Georgetown, Hopkins, George Washington U (should be a safety), U Chicago, U Rochester. You could try for Cornell, maybe Dartmouth.

Yeah, I think JHU would be a good school for you. Close proximity to Washington DC, one of the best IR programs, and a great med school.

Thanks for you help. I was worrying because everyone at my school who got into those schools that you mentioned had spotless grades with maybe one or two B’s. But I’ve been averaging one or two B’s per semester (maybe even more now).

Well, grades are important, but they are not the end-all. You have a great GPA and a great ACT, I seriously would not worry because you are going to get into a great school no matter what.

Anyone have suggestions for match schools? or more safeties? I can’t only apply to reach schools…that would be bad.

Boston University, Fordham, Rochester, Ohio Wesleyan. You might want to look at Oberlin, not that it’s a safety-type school.

Tufts for the combo of IR, pre-med and music
