college that allow student to take variety of classes

i’m looking for college that allow student to participate in variety of different classes, the one that allows student to follow different passion

what i want to knows is if this only allow in liberal arts college or all types of college/university? and can we still can do it even the major already been decided during application

I remember reading on their website that University of Rochester has very few (if any) general ed. requirements which enables students to double major and take classes in subjects that they otherwise may not be able to.

This depends entirely on the college/university. All will post graduation requirements on the website. But most courses of study in the US for 4 year programs have what is called ‘general education requirements’ or ‘distribution requirements’. Those usually have you take classes in a variety of area of study to have a broad bases sampling of topics. But within those categories, you usually have some choice of individual class. Also usually there are ‘electives’ where you can take what you want with no restriction. And finally there are classes for your major. This can vary depending on the college.

Here is an example of one college’s general requirements.

If you want to take just any classes that you want (follow different passions), then look for ‘open curriculum’ colleges. There are less of those, so also look for colleges that are more flexible or have less gen eds.
