I attended Rutgers Univ, but had to withdraw due to medical reasons and my school file notes that. When I checked out of the hospital I enrolled at Northeastern Univ but failed every class I took.

I started over in California at a community college, I have a 3.8 gpa. I will be applying in the Fall to some 4-yr colleges. I want to know can I forget about my past indiscretions, and not tell them about my other colleges. I didn’t earn any credit. The courses taken at northeastern was at there adult re-entering program and online. The courses at Rutgers were withdrawn.

I am afraid Rutgers and Northeastern will lower my chances of being accepted.

I think it’s a really complicated issue you’re talking about and is why there haven’t been replies. Are you going to use the CC transcript to get credit? If so, you’ll want to mention that. But if you are not intending to send transcripts I do not believe you need to bring up Rutgers or Northeastern since you are not seeking credit for any educational credits.

However, I am not looking at an application so not sure how they pose the question. I just don’t think you want to lie. If these medical issues are currently not an issue and were a mitigating factor in your other academic failures, I think they can be addressed. This is not applying for insurance where disclosure of previous conditions could have you blackballed, if you will. However, I do think if we’re talking about depression or other issues, you’ll want to strongly consider and weigh the results of your explaining that or not.

If it does not specifically say, list all the colleges you’ve attended regardless of the desire to seek academic credit, I really think to not address it might end up biting you in the butt. But again, I really think you might want to get a more “professional” opinion. I am sure there are transition people at your current CC because they are not typically four year institutions. I strongly suggest you make an appointment to get some solid advice.

No, you cannot just “not tell them” about Rutgers or Northeastern. Every college application I’ve ever seen (including the Common App) asks for all colleges you’ve attended, and you certify that you’re telling the truth. Also, if you received financial aid at either Rutgers or Northeastern and plan to apply for financial aid in the future, your full college history will show.

However, it does make excellent fodder for an essay, or a note of explanation about the withdrawal and subsequent turn-around.
