College/ Universities

Why is going to a better university better than going to an average university if you are still graduating with a degree?
For example Harvard vs CSUMB

For what field

Engineering

ABET accreditation means the topics covered will be pretty similar. More prestigious universities might have better job recruiting opportunities, or you might enjoy being surrounded by peers who are more driven or serious about their studies? But for engineering it matters less than some other fields.

Harvard engineering is not that great anyway.

Coming out of college, it demonstrates rigor and provides a reputation boost for you in front of future employers. Of course, this only goes so far- You could be a jerk with no recommendations that went to Harvard, graduated with a 2.3 and no outside research experience and easily be turned down for a a state-school-educated candidate with a 3.4 and multiple internships and projects to speak of.

Really, college is what you make it.
