Is Boston university or UT Austin harder to get into?

That depends.

If you are OOS for UT, it is harder to get into than BU.

But if you are in-state, it may be a bit easier to get into UT. If you are in the top 7% of your hs class, I believe UT is an auto admit. In terms of in-state competition outside the top 7%, I’m not sure how tough that is. I suppose that would depend on how many such applicants there are, and how many spots are left after all the top-7% kids take theirs.

It will also depend on your intended major. You can be in the top 6% of your class and thus admitted automatically to The University of Texas but if your application is not competitive you may not be admitted to your major. I know quite a few top 6% who denied engineering, CS and Business.

I’m in state for UT, but I’ve been getting emails from BU due to me tests and awards, so I’m just trying to base if BU would want me, would UT. Thank you!

Don’t base admission chances on the volume of college mail you receive. It’s not predictive of anything.

That’s marketing - and these don’t come from BU but from a vendor they contracted to send emails and brochures to ALL kids with certain scores. BU doesn’t ‘meet need’ so it wants as many full pay applicants as it can. And if you’re not full pay they “admit deny”.
Are you top 6%?

Any emails from any colleges, unless coming from an actual human in an admissions office, are advertisements. Do not read anything into. They are emailing you and tens of thousands others.

I am top 8, about 30 or so kids away from top 6
