I am touring Drexel University later this month. I have not applied yet I am going to be a sophomore in hs. I realize it is very early. I am speaking with an admissions advisor. I have heard stories of guaranteed acceptance from interviews before applying. What are they looking for in an interview like this?
As in your other thread, you with two semesters of HS under your belt, will not be the target of any sort of “guaranteed acceptance”.
Drexel admits kids with seven semesters on their transcripts and full test scores. You have neither.
The admissions advisor will tell you the benefits of Drexel and try to get you to apply once your senior year begins. They’ll tell you the general academic requirements and ways to afford the university.
You won’t be offered an evaluative interview once you indicate you’ve only completed your 9th grade year. Evaluative interviews (if offered) are given to those how have completed 11th grade. What you’ll have will be an info session on their part and you and your family can ask questions.

No typical 9th or 10th grader will have completed any of these. In other threads, you don’t indicate that you’ve accomplished an accelerated schedule. If you have, then you may have more to discuss. Otherwise, you still have 2.5 years to go before you start inquiring about “acceptances”
Some colleges do have “instant admits” for qualified students. But you need to bring your transcript and test scores to demonstrate this.
I think you’re getting ahead of yourself. Of you want to tour colleges before sophomore year, then more power to you, but an info session should be sufficient for the time being.
No school is going to offer college admission to someone who has just finished 9th grade unless you can demonstrate an IQ in the.5 per centile and incredible independent wealth of knowledge.
Is the Drexel admissions staff aware that you are only starting your sophomore year? If so they are only humoring you or looking to see if you are a star athlete or have some other amazing gift.
They will not and cannot offer you admission for three years from now. You haven’t proven your academic ability by taking advanced level classes. Have you taken the SAT or ACT?
In the next three years you could blow off academics or get into legal or disciplinary problems. You could fall in love with another school. You could move to Europe. The school will choose their incoming students from those who have finished 11th grade.
Your “interview” will not be viewed as an interview by the Drexel staff. They are politely meeting you at your request to answer your questions. Any questions they ask you will be just polite conversation.
Why are you so determined to apply as arising sophomore even though your guidance counselor told you it can’t be done???
Some public colleges seem to have guaranteed admission programs. In order to qualify a student has to meet certain test and GPA requirements by the fall of his or her senior year.
If you can increase your 990 PSAT and 3.0 UW GPA, you may qualify for guaranteed admission at the [South Dakota School of Mines](Admissions Requirements). Some guaranteed admission programs are for in state students only, so you’d have to search the websites of colleges you’re interested in to see if they offer it. IMO you would be better off waiting a year to do this.
I’ve heard stories about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, but that doesn’t mean they are real. What are specifics on these stories? Because (as I said on your other thread) many schools won’t even offer interviews to a sophomore. And even high school seniors with stellar GPAs and high test scores don’t get offers after an interview - they still have to apply, submit test scores and recommendations, complete the FAFSA (and possibly CSS Profile) before they know their status. The only cases where something like that might happen is for top athletes or someone with major accomplishments like being awarded patents on something they invented. Even universities that do things like offer guaranteed admission to high-achieving students in their state don’t do so until senior year.
What do you feel makes you stand out so much from other students that a college would want to guarantee a spot and money before you’ve fulfilled the requirements for admission?
My daughter was offered admission during an interview at two different schools. But her applications had already been submitted and she had completed her junior year of high school.
One was a committee interview at a state school and the other was a private school. But that is rare and she was a pretty exceptional candidate at lower ranking schools.
Have you visited Drexel before? Have you visited other colleges and universities already? Are you ready to commit to Drexel? It seems really early to have already committed yourself to a college or university. This isn’t a process that you want to rush, take your time, review your options, and if you love an institution consider early admissions but committing yourself to one school after 9th grade seems a tad presumptuous.
