College With An Artistic Vibe

I am trying to find a college in the United States that has a focus on academics and success as well as an emphasis on the arts, such as painting and photography. I am interested in majoring in International Business/Relations, but I want a school that has an artistic and creative vibe. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might look at liberal arts colleges such as Macalaster, which describes its international studies program as “the oldest (since 1949), broadest, and deepest such program at any private liberal arts college in the world. Whereas “International Studies” at most schools means only that subset of political science called international relations, Macalester’s International Studies draws ideas from across the spectrum: social sciences, humanities, sciences, and fine arts…” The college also offers an art major.

You might also consider a larger university that has an “arts community” that you could get involved in. For example, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities has a living-learning community called the West Bank Arts House, and it is described as follows: “We are a community of artists who value interdisciplinary access and collaboration. Our community helps each person achieve success in their coursework, explore the different disciplines within the performing and visual arts, and find ways to engage in collaborative projects. The program features a wealth of social activities and events such as tours of studios, galleries, and performance venues; study groups; group attendance at guest artists’ performances and studio events; and career exploration. We are centered in Middlebrook Hall, in the heart of the West Bank Arts Quarter. Theatre, dance, music, and visual arts majors are welcome here, as well as any other first year students wanting to engage with the arts on campus, outside of academic study.”

Also, on the University of Minnesota campus next to the student center is the Weisman Art Museum in a building designed by Frank Gehry. Students can do internships there and have lots of other opportunities to get involved. Sometimes the museum is open as a location for studying.

International relations (often a track in a government department) and international business (often a track in an undergraduate business school) tend to be separate academic pursuits. You may want to clarify your interests so that further replies can be specific toward them.
