college with low enrollment

“My friend wants to lie in his application” is maybe the less appreciated statement on CC. But what if I flip the coin and instead of being a student I were an admission officer who lied to recruit the school has a low enrollment? What if the school I represent list in its catalog majors and courses, that the school does not have? Would I be wrong? What would happen to the kids who could not visit campus and choose my college as his first choice because my lies made them love the school or because their desired major is in the course catalog although the school does not have the major? Worse case: the kids gave up schools that offered them more money than my college did because I was so persuasive at the college fair. Now, who will condemn me or my school? We are not applicants so we don’t need to be afraid of rejection letters because of dishonesty. What if the administrators at my school are so smart that every year, they hire a new admission officer, so the admitted students won’t have anyone to confront for being duped? What if my school end up with a bunch of frustrated students, who discover the scheme, but can’t make a move or can’t say a word? These students can choose to transfer but what if I have the last say in their college career? What if they need my approval to transfer but won’t get it from me no matter what? Would I be a cheater or would you consider my way of recruiting students a good marketing stratagem? Class of 2013, what would you do if you get trapped in a school like the one above?

Ummm… it’s called litigation and alumni ire. Mistakes can happen, sure. Sly marketing happens, sure (you mean my freshman dorm is only this big?!?). But whole cloth dishonesty wouldn’t last very long, IMHO.
