My son is a senior (Sept). His present SAT score which he took in May was low 1420 (510/460/450 so he will retake in the fall. His GPA is 3.5 and takes Honors College classes. He continues to maintain over 90% average and is an honor roll student. I am extremely worried about college. I would like him to attend a good college. We have not looked at any college so far. He is a varsity basketball player - He is interested in Political Science, yet is undecided where he wants to go. He will be attending the National Youth Forum in fall, hoping that this will do something good for him. I live in LI, NY.
Kindly advise/suggestions. Thanks.

American U, but he definitely needs to pull that SAT up.

For political science, he might want to check out American University in DC. You just can’t beat the location.

His SAT score is really going to hold him back, though - a 1420 is definitely on the low side for any top school. His grades seem fine, so if he could raise that score, a lot more doors would open.

EDIT: lol kingofqueens, we said the exact same thing. :p

Has he taken the ACT? Some students do much better on that one than on the SAT.

He’s definitely going to need to work on his SATs.
