So its known that there are many areas of empty cornfields surrounding UIUC…
but are there any colleges sharing these areas?
what colleges are near UIUC or are there none?

From what I know, the closest university near UIUC is Illinois State University located about an hour away in Bloomington. I’d bet there are some colleges/technical schools closer than that, but Illinois State is the closest university. I’m from Illinois, been down south to the Blomington-Champaign-Springfield triangle many times, and I had to look at a map to confirm that, so basically consider UIUC in the middle of nowhere.

Although there are is a large town surrounding UIUC, once you leave the town you will hit a stretch of cornfields going all the way north to the Chicago metro area, all the way east to Indianapolis, all the way Northwest to Bloomington, all the way southwest to Decatur, and all the way south to St. Louis or Memphis. There are some small towns scattered in between, but all you’ll see are the highway exits. So you’re pretty much in a bubble as far as other cities and universities are concerned, although that will be common at many midwestern universities (UW, Iowa, Purdue, Mich. St all come to mind)

Closest other colleges are Illinois State (Bloomington) and Illinois Wesleyan (Normal, sister town to Bloomington) and Millikin (Decatur, a small liberal arts college) all about an hour drive away.

Youn have this reversed IWU (Bloomington) and ISU is Normal. No difference, schools are a mile apart.

University of Illinois - Springfield is also just over an hour away.

Eastern Illinois Univ has about 17,000 kids and is about 45 minutes away.

Whoever said up there that there is a small town surrounding UIUC is a bit misleading. Champaign/Urbana has a total of around 120,000 people last time I checked. I never did figure out if this included the students or not, but I don’t think it does.

dont forget good old Parkland college (community college in champaign)

Parkland is creepy. I know a lot of people who flunked out of UIUC, then enrolled at Parkland so that they didn’t actually have to tell anyone that they flunked out. There was a guy who I graduated high school with who lived on the UIUC campus and went to Parkland for two semesters before anyone, including his parents, found out that he wasn’t actually attending UIUC, but Parkland instead.

Parkland is actually one of the best community colleges in the country. I don’t Parkland is creepy, maybe its just those you keep company with haha.

Nah, i don’t keep company with them, I just know them. I think I talk to about 3 people who I graduated HS with still. I can’t stand the other 397 of them.

Oh, and for the record, I was not belittling the quality of education at Parkland, just in case anyone took it that way. I just know some strange people who go there.

Haha I was only teasing. But in all seriousness Parkland is one of the best CCs nationally
