Hello, I’ve been trying to research colleges that have good music programs, along with good arts programs. I know in college that I want to take lots of music classes but also a few theatre/acting classes and dance classes. Also, it would be nice if the college also offered academics too, I’m great at learning other languages. But arts only schools are fine too. Thanks!!!

Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania.

The trick here is finding programs that allow a cross discipline approach, and allow non-major or “casual” students to take courses across the performing and creative disciplines. You may want to look at BA options within liberal arts colleges and smaller universities. The Colleges That Change Lives may be a good place to start. You might also wish to ask in the musical theater forum.

Columbus State University in Columbus, GA has a rather boring main campus, but a very cool downtown campus. The campus downtown houses the music, theatre and visual arts programs. Dorms are downtown for these programs.

The facilities are fantastic and it is a great environment for the arts.

There are so many colleges that would meet your needs, that it feels impossible to answer with any brevity.

You might enjoy the book “Creative Colleges”, which can be ordered on Amazon. It lists all the schools with good programs in music, art, theater and dance.

With your interests, my only thought is that you might like colleges that have fewer or no distribution requirements, to leave room in your schedule for all the things that you want to do.

I guess that for me, and I am on the East Coast, Bennington and Sarah Lawrence come to mind: they have free curricula with access to art, music and dance classes for all. Brown and Amherst do not have any distribution requirements beyond the requirements of the major. There are many, many more…

Muhlenberg is a pretty good choice. Any of the ELCA colleges are going to have solid music programs.
You might be interested in Luther (my school) - they have a very high quality music department and their theatre major/minor is actually both theatre and dance, so you get good exposure to both. :)

Also look at St Olaf, Augsburg, Augustana, Simpson, Concordia, Lawrence, etc.

Since you have varied interests in the arts and music perhaps this major might be worth considering.

Univ. of Southern California offers a BA in Visual & Performing Arts Studies. This is a multdisciplinary degree offerd jointly by the Thornton School of Music, School of Theatre, School of Cinematic Arts and the Roski School of Fine Arts.

As this major is in a university setting an applicant must fulfill the academic requirements necessary. For more information on this program: www.theatre.usc.edu .

Correction: offered
