Thanks so much for the congrats. Again, I thank the wisdom of this thread that encouraged the focus on rolling and EA applications to help ease the stress of this process.

yeah 911, congrats on Pitt!

Congrats to everyone on the various acceptances!

With acceptances in hand for Pitt and Temple (which granted her a $2,500 merit scholarship) we are still in waiting mode on several of my D’s schools. The last one we will hear from is U Delaware which does not notify until mid March. Seems like a long time to wait! U Del originally seemed to be her first choice, but Temple crept into the picture recently as a major contender due to its location close to home (and boyfriend!) and the fact that several of my D’s friends are planning to attend there.

Wishing everyone good luck on the early applications and a Happy Thanksgiving!

A bit reachy for the typical “B” student - but attainable for a “B+/A-” student - particularly with ED.

Need some advice - S just found out his grades for first marking period (although he hasn’t received report card yet). Got all A’s! He is really showing quite a turnaround! I know that some colleges ask for mid-year grades, but he won’t recieved them until February. I would like to send these grades to his EA schools. Can I just send a copy of his report card when we received it? Or, do I need to have his guidance counselor send an official copy (potential delay)? S’s grades improved substantially in his junior year, and I would like to show the schools that he is continuing that trend. Thx!

Hi - if you can get the GC to do this - send an official copy - perhaps by fax directly to the regional rep - I would say make the request. However, many high schools - particularly large ones - will not do this. My son’s hs - with 650 students - would never have the time. So - if having the GC do it is not feasible - have your son do it himself. Just fax to the regional rep (who will do the first read of his file in most cases) with a little note reaffirming his interest in the college.

I see no harm in doing this. I know some people will say that you are providing info that they have not requested - and are therefore not following instructions - and while I understand that point - I can tell you that private schools in this area do this type of advocating for their students all day long.

So - congrats on the grades and send them!

i agree with rvm. have your son send a note to the rep with the grades. it will show his continued and strong interest and his great grades.

congrats on the wonderful report card.

All of you that have new acceptances: Congratulations! That’s awesome! :)

Mom2009: All A’s? Fabulous! He should be very proud!

Mom2009: I agree that your son should send a copy of the report card along with a note to the regional rep. I think that this can only help his chances. Congrats on the great grades. This is a good sign of his readiness for college.

Congratulations on all the latest acceptances.

S just got a call from St. Louis U: Accepted with $12,000/yr scholarship!!

SLU holds interest for him if he can get into their Medical Scholars Program.

another congrats to 911. you are on a roll!

Congrats 911.

Momjr, I am a believer in that you must market your student to a university. Anything that turns your kid from a number to a story can only help. Vend in the grades with a little note that talks about his continued improving grades. Can’t hurt…

Happy Thanksgiving to my CC friends here! We are going to the Macy’s parade with three other families and then having dinner together. Can’t wait.

Was hoping that DS (HS jr) can relax this weekend, but not happening. Lots of SAT stuff (including another practice test on Sat) in preparation for 12/3 test. Plus, his AP Physics teacher is giving them a chapter to learn and do problems on this weekend – they can do it together but DS has to miss drivers’ ed because of when they decided to meet (he only gets one absence from drivers ed so this will be it). I hope he gets to hang out with a friend at some point - he needs a break!!!

DD comes home from UD tonight so I am excited! I’m sure she’ll be home for five minutes before she heads out to see her friends, but at least I have her in the car for 20 minutes to myself first (picking her up from where the UD bus drop-off is).

Hope you all enjoy the holiday and your families…

Yes indeed - Happy Thanksgiving to all! Enjoy your families and friends - no stressing over college admissions allowed for the next two days! And you have my blessing to just deflect those nosy folks who want to quiz your hs seniors on their college plans over turkey!

Enjoy the weekend everyone. We are heading tomorrow night to NYC and will have Thanksgiving breakfast with cousins from California and then have dinner with relatives in Brooklyn. The rest of the weekend will be relaxing and just wandering. Congrats to all for all of the acceptances. Dd has finished all but her portfolio for two of her schools, but those are just being uploaded. Most of her schools have notice dates in January or March, so we have a wait. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I have so much to be grateful for!

Phillyartmom:

Enjoy NYC, but be careful. They are predicting another nasty, windy rainstorm to begin tonight and be a bit heavy tomorrow, although it sounds like it’ll be worse earlier on as opposed to later.

To all the parent’s waiting for their college kids to come home, good luck…the travel day tomorrow sounds like it’ll have delays. I hugged my college freshman as he arrived home @4pm this afternoon.

It’s true…no matter how crazy our lives get, we really do have so much to be thankful for! :)

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Truly appreciate the continued support from all of the folks on this wonderful thread!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are traveling tomorrow in the nasty weather, fingers crossed.

College apps underway here as well, with one response so far (Pitt - yay!). Some supplementary essays are still in process, others are complete and submitted. And so it goes.

Best wishes to everyone in this holiday season!

I have one student in and another on the way tomorrow. It’s been so long since I had all of my kids under one roof.
Congrats to all on the continued acceptances and Happy Thanksgiving.
