Hi just like to share with everyone that my D got acceptances from College of Charleston and Indiana Bloomington!

and to Rockvillemom, I LOVE that!!! “bloom where you’re planted” I will be using that for thee rest of my life now. Amazing

names1 - yay! I’ve wanted to go to Bloomington ever since i saw the movie Breaking Away…

Peonies. Congratulations to d2! Just wanted to agree with RVM about no regrets. My dd got into her first choice on a rolling decision, and there are 4 more schools out there. She has not contacted those schools yet because she is not obligated to do so and she has not yet sent paperwork to first school. Also, she feels so strongly about this that it won’t matter to her now or in April about the possibility of choice. Dh and I wish she would have the choice, but it will be no different for her than for your dd, as she does not want the choice. I am hopeful that our wanting the choice for her and asking her to wait to decide won’t put a damper on our relationship for the next few months. In the end, it will be her decision and it is being made now, just like your dd’s. I hope this made sense!

Congratulations to all other new acceptees!

Names1 congratulations on Charleston and Indiana. My S got into Indiana and loved the campus. Several of his good friends are freshmen there and love it!

Congrats to peonies and names1!

Thanks to everyone. Moltobene, my son is also a freshman there. He LOVES it too! What area are you from?

names1 - congratulations on Charleston and Indiana! Also - I cannot take credit for “bloom where you are planted” - that has been on CC for a while and I don’t know who originated the phrase. Very wise words indeed.

dwhite - thinking of you - Elon?

S2 IN at Elon. He isn’t even up yet but I saw the email and knew without opening it. I assume he found out last night - a little surprised he didn’t come in to tell me!

congrats to all of the new acceptees, and a big mazel tov to DWhite son for his acceptance to Elon. There is so much going for this school, and it is getting some great kids from this very group in its Class of 2016.
Happy Hannukah to all.

Congrats dwhite…!! As the parent of a freshman, let me know if you have any questions as you proceed with decision making…

Congrats to Dwhite S on Elon admission!

My S was accepted at UMass and deferred at Elon. S is walking through this whole process without much emotion. Won’t say what his first choice is. He’s gotten 5 acceptances so far, but still has 5 schools left to hear from. We will definitely need to do some visits over the next few months.

I am disappointed, but not surprised about the Elon deferral. I think it is the type of school that would be good for S, but I’m not sure HE is convinced about the fit. More waiting…

Wishing everyone a Happy Chanukah!

Thank you for all the well wishes, and congratulations to those receiving acceptances over the past few days!! And thank you also for sharing thoughts on the pros and cons of waiting until spring to make a choice. One comfort I have is that D2 (and I) did a lot of research before she made the ED decision. The college she chose (Bates College in Maine) offers a curriculum that should work well for her, the sport she’s excited to continue with, a location she loves, and a culture of intellectualism with modesty that seems to jibe with who she is. The college was founded in the 1850s by abolitionists and has always embraced diversity and egalitarianism (coed from the beginning). Ok, enough of the sales pitch. D2 is convinced and that’s what matters. Thanks again for all your support!

Congratulations, peonies, names, Mom2009 and dwhite! It’s great to be entering this time of year with the knowledge that either a lot of these kids have choices or already know where they’ll be headed off next year.

As a parent of an ED kid, and hence the decision already made, I guess it’s a bit of a letdown that all of the suspense is over with. For our house, it’s a very good thing, as S is so thrilled with his school. Really feels that it fits him to a “T”.

Peonies, it sounds like your D feels the same way about Bates, which is SUCH a great school! We (rather, I) initially looked at the various Maine schools, but S felt it was just too far north for him.

So, I guess I’m glad to be off the rollercoaster of the admission game, but at the same time I will miss all the terrific comraderie here.

Names congrats on IU and CofC. Both are quarterfinalist for us. If you visit CofC, please let me know your thoughts and observations.
DWhite, congrats on Elon. From all I hear, it sounds like a very special school.

Peonies, Bates is a great school. Congrats again.

Congrats to Peonies, names, Mom2009, and Dwhite on the latest acceptances and sorry about the deferrals. This group has a great track record.

Both of my D’s were lucky enough to get accepted ED. They never looked back and are very happy at their schools. I worried that they might have “buyer’s remorse” in the spring when their friends had lots of choices, but they didn’t.

Happy Hanukkah! Hanukkah won’t officially start for us until D2 gets home tomorrow night.

My goodness - Happy Chanukah! That snuck up on me! Not the same as when you have little kids.

dwhite - congrats on Elon. Keep us posted on your decision making - is Elon at the top of the list or more middle?

Mom2009 - I have seen kids - including from this thread last year - be deferred at Elon and then get accepted in the RD round. Send mid-year grades - have your son email the regional rep if he is truly interested and tell him that, etc.

Happy Hanukkah everyone!

Mazel Tov on the acceptances! And Happy Hanukah to all! We will light the first candle tonight at 9:30 pm - between everyone’s activities. Beats last year, when we had DD do it with us via iChat.

Two interesting things came in the mail for DS today (HS junior). One was a brochure from Miami (OH) which I requested on-line. This piece was clearly designed for students in the northeast, so I guess they are really trying to attract these OOS students. Showed how many students from NY, NJ, MA, CT and where active alumni groups are. Pretty interesting. I told DS to take a look.

He also got PSAT scores in the mail (I guess they did away with the parents meeting since DD was this age three years ago). PSAT scores not too exciting for him. He needs real SAT scores to be higher. We will know on Thursday. Fingers crossed. Actually, I have a headache!

Looking forward to hearing more good news here in the days and weeks to come!

Congratulation dwhite, peonis, names, mom2009 and all who have gotten acceptances in the past few day.

I just got back from picking up the potato latkes at the deli before they closed at 3PM. I no longer make them myself since the deli ones are delicious and “mess free”.
I am making a big Chanukah supper tonight (roast turkey with stuffing and gravy, latkes, etc) as is our tradition for the first night of the holiday. Actually, I don’t usually do a turkey but they were on sale and I am trying out a “kosher” stuffing by substituting turkey sausage for pork sausage and this seemed like as good a time as any). All the kids presents are strewn on the fireplace hearth and the Chanukeeah (or menorah) and dreidels are out and ready to go. This year I got a big bag of Belgium chocolate gelt at Costco instead of the mutiple manechevitz ones I usually pick up and they are really good (we broke into the bag a bit early).

Wishing everyone here Chag Sameach!
