Happy Chanukah all! Each year, I pull out the Chanukah “artwork” made by my kids when they were small(er) to decorate our lighting area. REEALLY bittersweet this year. I wonder if I will do it next year when it’s only DH and me…

But this is a good thing, all this growing and maturing and moving along in life, right? A bright and golden holiday to you all.

Happy Hanukkah, everyone, and mazel tov to all of the acceptances so far! Enjoy this time with your family before the kids are scattered far and wide. D3 is home today but back to school tomorrow to pick up her teddy bear and some important music supplies she left behind , her older sibs are hit-and-miss about being able to get here for any holiday. I liked it better when they were all underfoot!

My d got the EA acceptance to Elon. She’s gotten in almost everywhere academically but wanting the MT world. We’ll see how the world spins the next few months

Hi everyone, happy Chanukah and continued congrats to all on the ongoing acceptances! Feels like we are the only people left in our town for break, but with the visits we need to make inthe spring, no travels to warm climes for us!

congrats mom2009, dwhite and 4kids. makes for a happy chanuka to get the acceptances.

for those accepted to elon, there are two facebook pages for the class of 2016. My S is very active on them. hint, my user name is the first part of his name. have your child find him and chat!

Just checking in after a long absence. I read daily last year when my 2011 high school grad was going through the process and now I’m on the “awesome parents of 2011” thread. BUT, just stopped in to wish everyone a happy hanukah and I’m thrilled for everyone with all the admits…I know not everything’s rosy for all but, if your D or S is stinging a bit, I hope it’s very short term and that an acceptance is around the corner.

RVM, a huge congrats to your S on Elon. I remember when you began this thread and wondered where he would end up–great school! It was my D’s first choice after she was admitted EA last year but, by April, had decided she wanted to be an engineer and was accepted at Bucknell which is where she just completed her first semester. Absolutely loves it and, as a parent, I have been very, very impressed. D1 attends Penn and I find Bucknell much more ‘user-friendly’. Hillel has also been wonderful at Bucknell. My D has only been to a few events but she has enjoyed them and came back to her room one night last week to see a bag waiting for her–treats for Hanukah from Hillel–they dropped off a bag to every student that was registered with them. Forgot what she told me was in the bag but she said it was great. She also said the rabbi (a woman) is very approachable and welcoming. I noticed someone here has a S attending next year–feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

So now I can join in on the good news. Just checked DS’ SAT scores. Way higher than his practice tests. If he keeps his GPA up (which I’m not worried about now that he’s out of AP Calc), he’s in great shape. Still needs to improve (primarily CR) for the merit $$ at his first choice (Miami, FL), but according to our HS Naviance, I’m pretty sure he’s in (according to GPA and SAT) - although you never know as things get more competitive each year. Still, everyone from our HS who has applied with his GPA and SAT has been accepted.

He’s definitely “in the money” at Miami of OH - not that he’s looked at it yet, but I’m considering it a potential safety.

ACT scores come next week, I think.

Interesting that I wasn’t as stressed (I don’t think) with my B/B+ DD. Or maybe I was :)

Happy Hanukah, everyone! I have been on hiatus from the thread due to working very long hours to pay all of this tuition and spending time on elderly parent issues which arose this fall. But I wanted to congratulate everyone on all of the great news! For those whose kids have been disappointed, I know that they will end up in a good place for them. May everyone go from strength to strength!

As a ‘senior’ member of this thread, I too, like Levirm, have taken a hiatus from cc. I was away for a few weeks, and now that I’m back, I find myself being busy with a number of projects. I still like to keep updated on this thread and congratulate all seniors and their parents on acceptances!

My college freshman is doing very well…loves it. My h.s. sophomore just got his first PSAT grades back, and honestly, we were delighted for his first attempt. Really, not bad at all. So, I’ll try to sit back and stop worrying so much. Easier said then done! Trying to take RVM’s sage advice.

I’ll continue to “pop-in” from time to time to see how everyone is doing. Linymom: Congrats on S’s SAT scores! Sounds like UMiami will be the place, good luck! It’s really a very pretty school. My nephew is a very happy sophomore there now. Also, Collage1, glad to hear your D is happy at Bucknell. Mazel tov to Samtalya & RVM on Elon acceptance and to mdmomfromli on Cornell, yikes!

I know I’m forgetting dozens of acceptances, but mazel tov to all. This thread, especially RVM and momjr, have made me realize my S2 isn’t doing so bad and that I need to step back and let him “come into his own”. It’s fun to watch it happen before my very eyes! We still have a long way to go, but as a sophomore, he is way more outgoing than he was as a freshman, baby steps…

Again, congrats to everyone and best wishes for a Happy Chanukah and a Happy New Year too!

Peonies, I am shocked your child didn’t get an acceptance at Elon!! It seems so random this whole process. Also I forget who but someone on here said their child got into Umass (which my D is still waiting on) and didn’t get onto Elon. RVM congrats on your S acceptance!!!

names1 - I am noticing that Elon’s acceptances in the EA round are hard to predict. Which does make sense - as they are considering more than just GPA and test scores. But I am doubly glad that he applied ED - no guarantee of what would have happened EA.

chocchip and collage1 - nice to see you stopping by! Always good to see old friends.

LINYMOM - good news on the test scores. Be interesting to see how his ACT comcpares to his SAT. I’m a big ACT fan - as you know.
