Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Thanks chocchip…meeting with the family next week so will explore; lots of these are already on the list but kid doesn’t want one of the technical ones so eliminates alot…

Had not thought of Trinity so will look into that…

luvmom, if your D visits American, I’m sure my son (junior business major) would be happy to show her around and let her attend one of his classes.

Sounds great! Just might take you up on that. Very appreciated!

Anyone have info/opinion about Elizabethtown C, Alfred U, Quinnipiac U & Skidmore C, &/or Guilford C, in any capacity?

I know a hard working, dedicated student who attended Elizabethtown C and loved this school, but this student is not Jewish. I don’t know how many Jewish students attend.

One of my kids applied to Q. I was not wild about the dorm set up there. I know 2 students who attended Q. One is a dedicated student and the other one is not. Both graduated with business degrees. The one who was dedicated in school is doing very well regarding employment. The other one is not. My son did not attend because the aid was not there for him.

I don’t know too much about the other schools.

We visited Guilford with my youngest when we did a whirlwind tour of NC colleges - Elon, Guilford, Queens and High Point. I think I liked Guilford more then my son did, but it was hard to get a real feel for it because the students were on their Spring break. The only students we met were the tour guides and then a couple of students working in the CS rooms. I really liked the way Guilford has their visits set up. They do an information session for parents and students and then they do the tour in separate groups - students going with a pair of College students and parents going with another set. The price of the college was very reasonable and they offered very good merit aid. We both liked the emphasis on student led academics and writing. Unfortunately, the strength of my son’s programs was not that great and the school was not really a contender.

I know a couple of kids that graduated from Elizabethtown and liked it, but that’s about all I know.

A family friend’s daughter is in the 6-year PT program at Quinnipiac. She is Jewish although that is not important to her.

She has had a good but not great time at Quinnipiac. She says that the students in her program study much harder than the student body as a whole. She is not overly impressed with the general level of academics there or some of the students. She also did not enjoy the 4-girls-per-room set up first year, although her housing since then has been great.

However, she is pleased to be in the program she is in…she will graduate with a PHD in PT without having to do any applications or standard testing, and she is having great clinical experience. All in all she is happy at Quinnipiac.

Just going back to the acceptance list. Dd was accepted into Temple University, Tyler School of Art. It is a state school for us, but unfortunately, not her first choice! But still nice to have options.

Just so people know, dd has modest SAT scores and B to B+ grades. She had to be admitted to Temple before she could be admitted to Tyler.

Congrats on Temple, Phillyart.

yeah to your DD phillyartmom : )

Congratulations, to phillyartmom and family!

Fabulous news! Congratulations to your family.

Congrats to Phillyartmom and D, especially for the acceptance to the college of art.

Yay Phillyart Mom’s D!!

thanks all!

congrats phillyartmom I keep hearing great things about Tyler.

Congrats Phillyart and family!

Congrats to all the kids and parents! The kids on this thread are getting great acceptances and the parents deserve to kvell!

Hi, all. Did you see this article?

Some good information to consider for our students. Clarifies some of the misconceptions out there. Interesting about the “VIP development candidates.” Guess that’s if your last name is Clinton. We don’t have that problem (advantage) here!

Congrats to phillyartmom on the acceptance (even though not first choice). Love to hear the good news.
