linymom knows, my son swims at Delaware. It IS a huge time commitment BUT, for him, the pay-off has been worth it. Some of his teammates are engineering majors so let me know if you would like your son to talk to them about what it takes to juggle sports and academics . Granted, Delaware is no Penn but my son has made Dean’s List for 3 of his 4 semesters so academics don’t take a back seat. We’ve drummed it into his head that school comes first even if his coach might not have the same philosophy. I know that at some of the D3 schools he looked at the focus really is on education first, even making it possible for athletes to go abroad, which at least for swimming is next to impossible at a D-1 school.

Thanks everyone for your info (here and PM). I will talk to her our friend/coach just for exploration. We will likely stick with our original plan of club tennis (USTA on Campus), which is nationally competitive. All of his top choice schools are active in the USTA on Campus program. After such a good win over a ranked player yesterday, it just made me think.

Socaldad - Yes - S2 decided on UVM! In the end it was between UVM, Elon, CU and Syracuse. A very tough decision for him! All very different! Hoping his ultimate choice is the right one for him…

Anyone have a list of 2016 hs grads yet? ;)

D13 is starting high school in the fall, and while I think it is way too early to think about college, she came home last week telling me about an assembly they had in middle school for the 8th graders to discuss college possibilities. It just blew my mind.

Pasting again. If anyone needs to update, be sure to grab the latest version.

I’m the expert? All I did was add the other colleges where S was accepted, and note which he will attend. I wasn’t aware that I’m supposed to edit others’ as well. I thought this was self serve.

Chocchip, there was no single deciding factor in his choice of Alabama. It’s a combination. The perks of the honors college (especially priority registration), the amazing dorms with private rooms, massive new engineering complex, generous AP credit, sports and school spirit, diverse student body (compared to his tech-heavy other schools), and genuinely friendly atmosphere all weighed heavily. Chance to be a bit of a trailblazer was also a plus for him. He has never been one who needs to follow the herd. And of course, there is the full scholarship. While we never limited his choices financially, he understands how huge it is to save all that money.

Chardo,

Sorry. Did not mean to upset or offend. I made an error. I thought you originated this great list, and were updating it.

Spectrum and others, perhaps you all can add the attending schools to your names…

I’ve never posted but read this thread everyday for the last six months. Congrads to the class of 2012 and good luck. You can add my DD to the high school class of 2014.

Yay! Luvin’ the growing list. Welcome newfaith! Queen’s Mom…you’re with me-2016! Mom24boys…hilarious. Now they’re all acounted for. You’re in for a ride!

LuvMomN8ur, Yay!!!

Hey everyone:
I’m so computer UN-savvy, so cutting and pasting makes me shudder. I’m sure I could figure it out rather quickly with one of my kids nearby  :D

Just to update the list:
I know that College4three (C43)'s S is a college freshman, so the 2015 date is when he graduates from college, not h.s.

Chardo:
Mazel Tov on making what seems like a very well thought out and awesome acceptance to Alabama! I bet he’s going to have a wonderful experience there, much different than some of the other choices…and there’s nothing wrong with that! Yeah, the full tuition scholarship would be a winner in our book too! And not to mention meeting friends of all sorts of backgrounds and majors and lots of school spirit!!! Best of luck to him and you.

Welcome newfaith:
We’ll be in this together for the next two years! Time goes very quickly…

Mom2009
