Interesting update on the Michigan State assault:

One more quote on this story:

Thanks for the update RVM. This is disturbing either way- true or if not true. I hope the truth comes out and that we will know the real situation.

I really hope he didn’t make up the anti-semetic part of the attack. The attack was bad enough, to lie about the motive…shame on him. I hope that whatever the truth is will eventually come out.

I think all the 2012’ers have been launched? Anyone left? How is everyone doing? The kids? D is really enjoying everything so far, the social life, exploring the town and campus and even the classes! So far doesn’t even seem to mind the tons of homework.

Time for me to gear up with D2 (2014)…I keep saying that don’t I? We decided to look at some schools over a 4 day weekend we have the beginning of November. That’s as far as we have gotten, no idea which schools. i told her we need to look at that this weekend.

DS has settled in perfectly at Alabama, right from the start. The big NY kid is a curiosity to some, but the place is just so friendly, he has been welcomed by everyone he meets. Between scheduled activities, meals, workouts, sports, socializing, and the occasional class, his days have been filled nicely. He has also gone to two Hillel functions and had fun there. Says classes have been easy so far, though he realizes they are easing the freshmen in slowly.

He can’t wait for Saturday’s football opener vs. Michigan. Roll Tide!

S2 just won a Kosher chicken dinner for being the 200th person to like Elon Hillel on FB!

rvm-mazal tov!!!

Hopefully this will not be his biggest accomplishment while at college!

rvm–what a great beginning! He “liked” Hillel, and now he must really like Hillel!

Lebanon Valley in Annville, PA had signs for their Hillel all over campus. No idea of the size of the Jewish population but had several fliers for various groups. Good school for someone with a good class rank-automatic merit aid 1/2 tuition, 1/4 tuition, 1/3 tuition depending on where in the class (30% and up so good for B students). Test optional and more merit available on a competitive basis.

Ok - there’s one I never heard of! Lebanon Valley College does have a Hillel:

[Spiritual Life - Fellowship Groups](http://www.lvc.edu/spiritual-life/fellowship-groups.aspx)

About 1650 full-time students - with less than 1% Jewish.

Some nice merit scholarships:

We have friends whose kids have gone to Lebanon Valley and loved their experience. It is very small, but I believe the school is very helpful and works closely with the students. I don’t know anyone jewish that is there.

so…any reports of Hillel doings this weekend?

My S and his friends are having their own Shabbat dinner tonight to celebrate everyone being back on campus.

Elon Hillel is having a bagel brunch for new students tomorrow. The temporary Hilel office is actually in the lobby of his dorm! So, I am sure he is aware of it, but I agreed not to push, so keeping quiet on that topic.

Hi All. I have been following this thread and one other (Parents of the College Class of 2016, formerly Parents of the High School Class of 2012) for a little over a year now. I have enjoyed getting to know everyone through their posts and have learned a lot. I never intended to post, but an experience last weekend made me realized I am in too deep to stay quiet. My S just started his freshman year at Elon. Last Saturday as H and I prepared to leave the hotel for Elon’s convocation, H returned from a trip to the car and said, “There’s a car in the parking lot with Maryland tags and an Elon sticker and a Wake Forest sticker.” To which I replied, “Oh, I think I know whose car that is.” Of course, H asked, “Really, whose?” Then I had to admit it was someone I only know from CC. How embarrassing!

Of course, now I’m sorry I didn’t speak up sooner as I missed my chance to meet some of you at the Hillel reception last Saturday. Maybe Family Weekend …

RVM, I had already “liked” the Elon Hillel FB page, so I saw the news about the chicken dinner. Very cool it was your S that won! My S said he is going to the bagel brunch tomorrow.

rvm - congrats on hopefully what will be the first of many achievements at Elon!

Strange that Senior year is now here… it felt good months ago that there was so much time to deal with all the college stuff. Somehow it doesn’t feel like so much time now!
Good luck to everyone as we tackle applications, essays, etc.

Cocos - welcome to our thread! So great to see you post here. Yes, that probably was my car you saw, others there recognized it as well. Outed by my car, lol. Im sorry we didn’t meet at the Hillel reception. Son just called and he is planning to attend the Hillel bagel brunch tomorrow. Hoping that goes well and he becomes involved.

Reporting in on American University:
My daughter has been to several Hillel events, and finds it to be a warm and welcoming group. The Friday night dinners are now free (they used to charge for them), and there are both reform and conservative services (I think they are after dinner).

She also says half the kids on her floor are Jewish.

AU is definitely a possibility for B/B+ students, although they’re not great with need-based aid and the merit money seems to go to A/A- students with high test scores.

I couldn’t help myself, this morning I sent D a link to the hillel page with the high holiday information. Told her if she wanted to go to any of the meals and there was an additional charge over or in place of the meal swipe, I would gladly pay.

She emailed me back, totally ignoring the Hillel link and meal offer and asked me to ship her soccer stuff to her.

Oh well…I tried.

Desk potato: We visited American a few weeks ago before school, and my daughter said she liked it. Not love, but she could see herself there. I found the information session a bit generic. They seem to have fantastic student services, which is probably why so many kids are full pay. D would have to get big $ to go there.
