Hey Everyone - want to share my news that S got accepted to Pitt engineering! At the risk of sounding really corny I have to thank so many of you on this thread who gave me such good, sound advice. I never would have considered Pitt, but then many of you suggested it, and when we visited it, we both loved it! (S had loved BU, but I thought there was not much of a campus, so many of you commented that Pitt was “like BU but with a campus” and S and both felt this was exactly right!) Also many of you told me that the students seem very nice/very happy - and our visit proved this as well.
Well, not sure if S will end up there (good chance because he really likes it), but regardless - it sure feels great right now!!
So a great big thank you to my CC friends!

Yay for champs and champs-son!

Did your son do the “i’m going to college !!!” dance? My kids all did crazy jigs when the first acceptance for a school they really liked came in.

Champs, so happy for you and your DS! Congratulations!!!

In the past, I’ve mentioned how my boys all loved BBYO and were deeply involved in it. Well, the circle continues to turn…my middle son is now the advisor to his very own chapter of AZA.

(and as an additional comment…and the social benefits of BBYO continue at this new level. Not surprisingly, the BBYO chapter advisors have a healthy social life of their own…My son was laughing at how the advisors sort of hang together and form their own “chapter.”)

@champs- great news! Hail to Pitt!!

Congrats to champ…and family!

Does anyone know when the Pitt scholarship awards are distributed? (since I know they don’t come with the admit letter)

Champs - Mazel tov to you and your son!

boysx3 - We have friends who were involved in BBYO as teens and met when they both were advisors. They have been married for almost 20 years and their oldest is applying to colleges now!

Congratulations to Champs and son!

Congratulations Champs and family! Great news!!!

Congratulations to Champs and family! Thanks for sharing your wonderful news.

Champs,

Congrats. Pitt is great. We too were impressed with everything we saw. Nice to have a good viable choice under your belt this early in the process. The rest will be easy going now that you have a contender in hand…

@rodney- I recall from others who posted about scholarships on the Pitt board that they come separately and there is no set schedule …I believe scholarship appplicants are reviewed weekly …you can call Pitt admissions and ask if you have a particular student you are following up on.

Congrats to Champs and son! It’s very nice to get that first acceptance. My BU D also applied to Pitt and was thrilled to hear from them early. D1 refused to applied to any schools in Pittsburgh because of a certain pro football rivalry.

Boysx3 - My H and I met in BBYO also. I’m glad to hear that the organization is still thriving and your S is still enjoying it.

Wonderful news Champs! How awesome to have news so early in senior year! :)

Hi everyone! I need some help because D is having a meltdown with her college list. Are there any LACs like Oberlin for a B student? I need your wisdom! Thanks.

Anniezz - How about Clark? Or, my kids are at the University of Vermont. It’s larger and state school, but I think the vibe is similar.

anniezz, what aspects of Oberlin are attractive to your daughter?

My son mentioned the fact that a lot of BBYO advisors get married to one another…

but at this point, I would just like him to find a girl he likes who likes him! Although he did mention that there is some social being planned where each person picks a name and has to bring a date to the party for that person. Sound like a new definition of “meet market” but it could be interesting if the “dates” are chosen carefully.

Thanks mom2009. I sent scores to VT earlier this week, if I can get D to consider it…bigger than she thinks she wants. I’ve heard that Clark’s campus isn’t great and the surrounding area not so hot, which D wouldn’t like, so I’ve gone back and forth. Any insight about that?

Boysx3, she likes that everyone seems smart and engaged. She likes that it’s progressive. She likes the general feeling that uniqueness is embraced. She likes the music vibe. And she likes the circus, so she can ride her unicycle!
