Thank you to all who have responded with advice and encouragement! I’m taking notes, reading links and researching the info you posted. I must seem very neurotic (mostly accurate) but I have read things that shook my confidence about the outcome of this process. I’m feeling much better now and certain that there’s more than one school out there that will be a good fit in all/most ways and that we can afford. I’ve known that it would take a lot of research and effort to find the best fit, but my heads been spinning the last few week. Thanks for helping to slow down my spinning head.

It’s almost 9pm, so I just signed on to cc to see any updates…

YAY, YAY, YAY to all the new acceptances! Linymom and Vitrac: How long has it been since “we” have all been waiting to hear this news??? YAY, YAY, YAY!!! :D

I suppose we know where Linyson and Vitracdaughter will be heading this coming Fall??
Mazel Tov…that’s really terrific news.

Spectrum: I had a chance to just look at those snow in Jerusalem pictures and my S1 was there in the middle of it all! Good thing he’s from the Northeast and is used to snow!
I got a notice about kids doing unpaid summer internships offered through Birthright…has anyone else received those notices?

Ohmmom: Welcome. I looked quickly and your D’s stats seem quite good…if she is interested in languages, my S1 is a sophomore at Tufts…have you considered that school? he LOVES it there…

Also, Spectrum: my nephew graduated from Vandy and also really loved it there too.

Not so fast, Choc! We have no idea where D2 will end up. She has great choices and we will be visiting Tulane, Miami and Michigan in the coming weeks. Maybe Texas too, if she gets in. Merit money from the 3 that I mentioned.

Vitrac: Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami, Miami

^^^^^LINY!!! As much as we complain about this crazy process, it’s been fun!

^ That’s far from what you were saying four hours ago!!! I have the texts to prove it!

Miami, Miami, Miami…hooray!!
Congrats on the new acceptances to UM and Goucher. Your kids rock!

DS was accepted to Miami as well. We are happy, but a little surprised that he did not get any merit money. Several kids with similar stats got $$, so he was a little annoyed (me too!). Personally, I have been rooting for Tulane, so this may make the decision easier. Congrats Liny, Vitrac and others. And Liny, I agree, this has been fun, in a sick, twisted, neurotic kind of way!

Congratulations LINYMOM, pkdof13, and Vitrac!!

Miami congrats to jozuko and college4three!!

Ohm mom, your daughter has outstanding stats, I think she will do very well! Keep reading this thread and taking notes and soon you will be helping the next newbie! :)

Congrats and Mazel Tov to all!!! The third and last child, DD, just started her second semester at SUNY Buffalo and couldn’t be happier. Truthfully I am thankful that I am finished with the college decision process. I do not know which was more stressful, the college process or planning two of my three children’s weddings! Oy Vey! Again Congrats to all!!!

Son admitted EA to Goucher!! Found out by email.

Congratulations to Shalumit-son and the other Goucher admits!

Congrats, Shulamit! And thanks!

I’m starting to recognize names from this thread on other threads (e.g., Miami and Tulane). I don’t know anyone in real life that is making such a major life project out of the college search process so I don’t feel so alone here. ;)

Congratulations again on all of the recent admits, such wonderful news.

jozuko - you may want to have your son call Miami admissions next week and ask about the lack of merit money, on the off chance that an error was made. Or at least to get an explanation. I have a close friend whose son was accepted last yer with $11,000, but the website info seemed to indicate he would receive $16,000. She called and was told that while he had the gpa and test scores, he only had 1 AP class, and that had been a factor.

In other news, S2 is on his way back to Elon after a great week in Florida working with Elon Hillel students on Habitat for Humanity projects. They did work from 9-5 every day, painting, hanging drywall, etc. He was really moved by the elderly homeowners he met and their stories and found it to be a very worthwhile week.

RVM-Sounds like an amazing and worthwhile week with HfH. Good for him!

ohmmom: GFC and no one making a project of the college ap process like you are, are you sure you don’t live next door to me :).

Jozuko: Great advice from RVM but even if the scholarship doesn’t work out all your S needs is one great choice and you are there already.

Pkd and Shalmut: Congratulations on Goucher

Whenwhen: congrats to you too, and anyone else I missed.

Congrats to everyone on recent acceptances. I have not posted lately because I am verynsuperstitious and didn’t want to jinx anything as we anxiously waited for the U Miami decision. Happily D2 was accepted! She thinks it is her first choice but we haven’t seen it since she was a freshman when we visited with D1 over Christmas vacation. I want to make another visit with her soon before we commit just to be sure. But I think that it is very likely that she will be a Cane next year. Best of luck to everyone else who is still waiting for decisions, wishing you all happy outcomes.

Great news, congratulations! Hope your visit goes well.
