<p>Rodney, I was wondering about that because College Board says Elon is in a suburban area. A school with a surrounding area that has malls, restaurants and movie theatres would appeal more to my D then just a college town and nothing much past that. Thanks for the input. Upstate NY is very rural! I’ve spent a lot of time in the Catskills.</p>

<p>Sealea, I don’t know how many groups are leaving on that date. My S is 24, just finishing up his graduate degree. He is hesitating on making his final travel plans too…he has a job interview coming up and if he is lucky enough to land this position, he might not be able to travel as much as he might like to.</p>

<p>Every time one of my kids is in Israel things seem to get a bit too “interesting” for my liking. Like when one son was in Sderot when the shelling started.</p>

<p>These new events are making me a bit nervous again.</p>

<p>But Birthright does a great job of keeping everyone out of harm’s way and giving them a great trip, no matter what else is going on.</p>

Oberlin College Student Senate endorses divestment resolution</p>

<p>May 7, 2013</p>

<p>(JTA) – The Oberlin College Student Senate endorsed a resolution that calls for the college to divest from six companies that do business in the West Bank, eastern Jerusalem and Gaza.</p>

<p>Following a three-hour discussion, the resolution was approved “by majority” on Monday, the Oberlin College Students for a Free Palestine said in a news release.</p>

<p>The six companies are Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, Group 4 Securicor, SodaStream, Elbit Systems and Veolia.</p>

<p>Similar resolutions have been passed this school year at the University of California campuses in Irvine, Berkeley and San Diego.</p>

<p>The Students for a Free Palestine group at Oberlin said it would bring the resolution to the Oberlin College Board of Trustees’ Finance Committee, which sets the college’s financial policies. </p>

<p>“My concern about BDS is that it furthers the polarization between students who might consider themselves pro-Israel and students who might consider themselves pro-Palestinian,” Oberlin sophomore Noa Fleischacker, co-chair of J Street U’s Oberlin chapter, told the Oberlin Review student newspaper before the vote.</p>

<p>“What we really need to be doing is creating conversation and dialogue between those students, and also on the ground of creating negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.”

Two Ithaca college students were the the target of a shocking anti-Semitic attack recently. Freshmen Ross Sugarman and Josh Bond–both Jewish –awoke April 21st to find “Heil Hitler,” “666″and a swastika in dripping red paint defacing their door.</p>

<p>Both students are members of Alpha Epsilon Pi, an international Jewish fraternity, and though both were disappointed, neither said they felt particularly threatened.

Most members of the Ithaca College community may not be aware of the infraction, because the college did not publicize it via a Public Safety Alert.</p>

<p>Investigator Tom Dunn said the swastika incident is not considered a potentially dangerous or ongoing threat.</p>

<p>Terri Stewart, director of the Office of Public Safety and emergency management, said the investigation into the case is ongoing and officers are working tirelessly on the case.</p>

<p>“Everyone here cannot imagine the incredible amount of resources that has gone into this investigation to the extent that we have put a couple officers on this full time and brought them in on off time to find out who’s responsible,” Stewart said.

Ithaca College’s Office of Public Safety has judicially referred one student for aggravated harassment in the recent incident of anti-Semitic graffiti in a residence hall, according to college officials. The student will be charged after a judicial hearing, which is expected to take place within six business days.</p>

<p>The college also announced that after investigations, it has classified the incident as a hate crime, in accordance with FBI Uniform Crime Reporting.

<p>Hi all, I am new to this forum. Having just landed our DS #1 at USC for the next 4 years, I am now ready to think about DS #2, who will be a HS Sophomore. He is extrememly interested in Judiac studies or some iteration of that as his major in college, and is a great student. Does anyone on this thread happen to know where there are good programs for this? Thanks!</p>
