The Hampton Inn on St. Charles Street is a few miles from Tulane and right on the street car line. So you just walk out the front door and catch the street car to Tulane or take a cab if you are in a hurry. Other than move in day we never rent a car when we visit D1 at Tulane.

^^^ Second the Hampton Inn on St. Charles.

I’ve only stayed in the French Quarter, which you should visit if you have time. When we were there in October, they were doing maintenance on the street car line between the Garden District and Tulane. You had to take a bus for that portion of the ride. You might want to check to make sure that’s not an issue. Have a great trip! I love NOLA.

Hampton Inn on St. Charles St. was perfect for us too.

Happy New Year to All!

Just wanted to share Provost’s response:

Thank you for sharing Elon’s response. It is good to hear that they will not participate in the boycott.

I think it would be interesting to identify colleges that are supporting the boycott - as those may be colleges that Jewish families would like to avoid. Please share this info ad you come scross it.

Here’s a quote from jpost.com on colleges opposing the boycott:

This is a few days old - but most comprehensive listing I have seen.

I got an email from Colgate saying they do not support it and neither does Hamilton, union, Skidmore or Connecticut College. I better check on Colorado College?

Surprised to see that the University of Tulsa rejects the boycot. A major part of their funding comes from recruiting students from some of the petro-states which are generally extremely ant-Israel. Wish the other Oklahoma schools would follow suit.

I think this is a list of colleges opposed to the boycott as well.

RockvilleMom & Pennylane, thanks for the links listing colleges/universities in opposition to the boycott. A few schools on BHG’s list remain absent, and may necessitate an email for clarification on each institution’s stance on the boycott. BHG’s initial reaction to RVM’s link from yesterday was, “Why isn’t X, Y & Z on this list?” She plans to email the schools if she cannot locate any information on their websites, as she states she cannot and will not visit or apply to an institution without knowing their stance on the boycott issue.

Check both lists. Northeastern was on Rockvillemom’s list and not Pennylane2011.

I think that the schools should boycott the organization that organized the boycott. Is that what they are doing? Aim not just for the boycott itself but the organizer.

ShawD returned from her Birthright trip. She was ecstatic. She wanted to stay longer but hadn’t arranged it. She said, “I’ll come home now if you guys will take me on another trip to Israel,” which is exactly what ShawWife has been hoping to do.

I was at a New Year’s weekend shindig with lots of luminaries. One was a prof who is studying the effects of Birthright and it appears that it substantially increases the likelihood of marrying within the faith. Got to get ShawSon to go – like me, he’d never gone out with someone Jewish. He seems to have imprinted on his last GF, a wonderful kid who was Mexican, Irish, and who knows what else, but was short, very petite, and a little darker-skinned. These days, he seems to be attracted to Asian girls as they fit the imprinted profile. He is 6’3" with a big frame and his 5’9" sister says he’s a waste of opportunity for taller girls.

@ Mom24boys, I actually printed the two lists and several schools are not on either of the lists. Those are the ones to which emails will be directed if BHG cannot find any information on school websites.

I think e mailing the schools is a great idea, and it shows that people care about this.

U of Rochester’s president on the boycott:
[UR rebukes Israeli college boycott](UR rebukes Israeli college boycott)

Some schools, like the University of Miami, oppose the boycott but have no membership in the organization that created the boycott. This organization is not big as to cause a big impact if boycotted, besides If you start with the premise that is ok to boycott a country, any organization could follow suit. I believe ,IMHO, that this ad shows a stronger support for freedom of ideas and for Israel in general.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please do not discuss politics except as they relate directly to school. I had to delete a few political posts just now.

I hope all of you in the Arctic Blast region are doing well and staying warm.

On the Israeli boycott I was very happy to see many schools represented but disappointed in others particularly S2’s school. I was going to make some contacts with the school to better understand their position on this. I am however confused. The list that PennyLane linked to mentions Britain’s University and College Union. All of the other discussion refers to the American Studies Association. Are these two different boycotts or did the ASA adapt the UCU boycott position? Also is there a way to figure out if a school is a member of the ASA? Finally I am wondering if you were going to ask the question about the school’s position who would you ask? Would it be Jewish faculty, reps from Hillel or someone else? I however know if I asked the question I need to be clearer about what I am asking about. I’m sorry I didn’t go back through all of the posts on this but I did try Googling the information but wasn’t successful.
