This post isn’t about me; it’s for my friend.

I know it’s mid December but he’s still looking for schools.

What are some places that give good FA or he has a chance of getting a scholarship at, that haven’t had their RD app deadline or scholarship consideration deadline yet?

Stats:
Asian Male
Omaha, NE
Average Public School

National Merit Semifinalist (but finalist status is questionable because of GPA)
ACT: 35 (straight 35s, and 11 on essay)
SAT Subjects: 740 Math 2, 780 Biology
GPA: 3.24 Unweighted
Class Rank: 89/471 (top 20%)
Taken 4 APs so far, will take 10 by end of HS.

GPA has a downward trend throughout 3 years of HS, but class rigor has also increased dramatically throughout the years (I don’t know anyone at our school who has a tougher course load than him)

Details
University of Nebraska is the very last resort.
Applied to USC, submitted his app before scholarship consideration deadline, but not transcript/other school forms.
Planned on applying to UT Austin but did not apply on time.
Plans on applying to U of Michigan before the rolling decision deadline now.

So…what are some school ideas?
He wants to study Business, and prefers a small school, but at this point anything’s fine.

Alabama isn’t a small school, but it does have an Honors College that can provide that “small college feel” because class size is limited to 15 students. If interested, he’d need to apply ASAP. The app is super easy - no essays, no recs. It’s a beautiful school.

What is his weighted GPA? And is the weighted GPA written on his transcript?

Is that his complete GPA - including PE and electives?

BTW…someone needs to put some pressure on your school to start weighing grades. Their silly policy is costing students money in scholarships.

He should apply to Alabama. He’s missed the “priority deadline,” but UA still considers all applicants with high test scores and GPA over 3.0 for scholarships. He still has a good chance for full OOS tuition. But, he’d have to apply ASAP (easy and fast app) and then when he gets the followup email, he’d need to apply for scholarships.
