I am a senior who is applying to colleges, and while I have most of my list set, I am still looking for that one perfect school that I know I can afford and would love to go to. I found WPI a while a go, and plan on applying since I should get a lot of merit aid from them, from the automatic valedictorian scholarships and the chem and biochem major scholarships (I don’t get much financial aid from anywhere). While there are aspects of WPI that I love, I can’t help but worry that I will feel limited there; I am going into science, but I want to study so much more while I am in college.

The reason why I like WPI is the location (northeast), the type of nerdy/quirky students that I feel comfortable with, the good science resources, and the scholarships. So I am basically looking for the non-tech school version of a school like WPI; thanks for any help in advance.

If you are looking for a school with lots of different majors in the humanities/social sciences then WPI is not a great choice.

Depending on your stats and interests, maybe a small university such as U. Rochester or Brandeis would be an option? I’m sure there are plenty more than might work for you.
Harvey Mudd?

I’m was planning on applying to Brandeis too, but it didn’t seem like they gave out a lot of scholarships (maybe I’m wrong); and to answer your question BeanTownGirl, I am set of a science major, but I definitely want take classes outside of my major; specifically, I found the foreign language offering at WPI to be a little lacking. Plus I would like to have the science nerd environment of WPI in the context of a more general quirky student body that is focused on a lot of different things.

And thanks, I’ll look into the University of Rochester a little more.
