So in the upcoming year this is the schedule that I want
Spanish IV
AP Language
AP Government/AP Macroeconomics
AP US History
AP Statistics FREE CLASS
Now I don’t really care about having an insanely rigorous schedule however I truly enjoy Spanish (non-native, I don’t need anymore Spanish credits), I enjoy government/economics, I need to know statistics for the field I want to go into, and US history is just something that I enjoy as well. English language I’m scared on since I know I’m not going to be getting As on all my assignments (teacher is very difficult) but I want a “challenge” and its a good experience from what upperclassmen have told me.
Now that you have seen all my background, here is the question:
Should I exchange that FREE CLASS for Physics Honors/Chemistry Honors because I really dislike sciences but I hear colleges want to see a continuation of rigor. I’m in AP Biology right now and I just don’t have any passion for it. However, will colleges look down on that I didn’t take a science? Or should I take maybe AP Physics C?
If you haven’t taken a physics or chemistry class in high school I would suggest taking whichever one you haven’t because colleges do want to see at least a year of chemistry, biology, and physics. If you have never taken a physics class before I would suggest taking honors not AP Physics C. AP Physics C is (at least from what I know of around me) an extremely difficult and rigorous course that will require a lot of work ESPECIALLY if you have never taken a physics class. If you have already taken all three sciences and do not want to take any others, I would suggest doing a fun elective instead of just having a free period.
^^If you have never taken physics DO NOT take physics C you will most likely fail the class. However if you truly want to take ap physics go with ap physics 1. It’s made for kids with no background knowledge in physics, but it’s still very difficult. The main problem is not that you’re taking a free class(because the rest of your schedule is rigorous), but more because you haven’t had the core sciences(bio, chem , physics). You’re taking ap bio now which is fantastic, however I suggest you take either physics or chem. Also don’t jump into ap chem right away because that class is the devil…
Thanks for all the responses @KE3299 you mentioned the fact that colleges want to see physics, chem, and bio. I have completed bio and I have done half a semester of chemistry. The only problem with chem I have is that I really do not care for the class and have taken too long of a break. The only way to get back to speed with chemistry (finish the second half) is by trying to learn the entire first semester again.
Well, if you don’t want to go into a STEM field then I guess the 2 vocational courses are fine. Take AP Language instead. I just know colleges like 4 years of math and science.
