Colleges Look @ GPA, Athletics When Deciding Renewal Grants/Subsidized Loans??

Can anyone tell me whether colleges look at a student’s first year GPA or his continued participation in NCAA DIII athletics (if he was a heavily recruited athlete) in deciding whether to continue grant aid and subsidized loans? We definitely qualified and needed both last year and with rising costs will need it this year too.

Thanks.

With need-based aid, I’ve only heard of them checking that the kid is still a student in good standing, and then it’s all based on the numbers. If it’s merit money, then they look at whatever is necessary to maintain the grant.
