<p>Just looking for ideas. My son loves to go on church youth group mission trips. On the mission trips, the kids fix porches and roofs and build wheelchair ramps for poor people or old people recommended by, say, the county department of social services. Son likes the idea of helping people and likes the actual work of building the wheelchair ramps, seeing it when it is done, and hearing about how it will be used. Does this suggest any colleges to any of you? Any majors?</p>
<p>He is a bright well rounded high school freshman. He plays a number of sports well and plays two instruments and is on student council. His high school grades and test scores will probably be pretty good. If you ask him where he wants to go, he names Big 10 and Big 12 schools with good football teams, but we haven’t started visiting colleges yet. I love the idea of merit aid.</p>
<p>He doesn’t want to major in engineering or architecture or religion - and despite the fact that he loves church youth group mission trips, he is not particularly religious.</p>
<p>I was looking at the Peace Studies program at Goucher (he likes to travel - I could see him doing an overseas community service project) and I was looking at the Bachelor’s in Urban Planning at Cincinnati.

<p>These are both programs that I found by accident. Any ideas for particular colleges or particular programs or majors to think about? Probably college visits junior year.</p>
