Colleges that are accepting students even after they started a college somewhere else

I started college in Croatia. But I would like to apply for a US college as freshman. I know you can do it with Harvard, but I want to know what are the rest.

So basically, is there a list of colleges that are allowing to start THE FIRST YEAR, even if I ALREADY STARTED another college (in this case, in Croatia)

There is no easy way to find out which colleges and universities would consider you to be a transfer student. You need to check each website separately, and then you have to contact the admissions offices to verify that the policy hasn’t changed.

Almost all colleges and universities here do accept transfer students. Again, whether or not your credits will actually transfer as anything is up to them. It is entirely possible to find out that you must apply as a transfer, but that none of your credits from your first university are used for placement or credit here.

Oooh, so basically, it is still considered “Transfering”, and I’d be a Transfer student, but my credits wouldn’t be used, and therefore I would be considered a regular freshman, right?
Thanks for explaining!

One big difference is that you’re unlikely to receive financial aid if you are a transfer and that you’re not eligible for the freshman scholarships if you’re not a freshman applicant.

If you registered only (ie., administrative) but did not attend college for whatever reason, you’d be a freshman.
After that, each college can decide whether you consider you a freshman or a transfer depending on how many credits you have completed. Some colleges will still consider you a freshman if you only had 2-3 courses completes but others will consider you a transfer. Be aware that you will be judged on the credits completed and thus the grades you got in these classes.

I know that my daughter’s friend went to Brown after one or possibly up to two years at a University in Ukraine. I don’t know if he was made to apply as a freshman or not, but he was accepted as such and received financial aid. He was not considered as a transfer, but I believe his transcripts were used for admissions purposes.

Why do grades matter?
and,
Is there any way I can turn the start of this college year into my advantage?

I guess I will have to contact every college to see if they would consider me as freshman or not.

bump

In case anyone else has any advice ^^

Grades (if you attended and completed a course) will be seen as indicative of your ability to succeed at the college level; that’s why they’re important.
I’m not sure what you mean by “turning the start of this college year to my advantage”.

How many credits have you completed?

Note that if you took the college class as a high school student (what in the US is called “dual enrollment”), you’re still considered a freshman.

No credits for now. College starts in 2 months. (first year)

Never heard it was possible to take college class as HS student. at least our students here can’t do that.

What I meant was, I already entered college here, so even though I’m a bit late with applying for college, what can I do to take the best out of it.
“Grades (if you attended and completed a course) will be seen as indicative of your ability to succeed at the college level; that’s why they’re important.”
This is what i looked for. So they do look at these grades? Good to know, I’ll work on that.

I should tell you my grades from high school.
4.2 (1st year) 3.9 (2nd) 4,5 (3rd) 4,2 (4th)
Translated into GPA that would between 3,16 and 3,6. Do I have any chance to get into schools that offer scholarships? (to internationals) Most people tell me I have no chance, and that i should give up and try to apply for graduate instead. Which means 4 more years here, and tbh, I dont know if I can wait that long. So right now Idk what to do. I have 5 months for SAT, but even if I score good, I still have a not-very-successful CV, and poor grades from HS.

You may not convert your GPA correctly. A 3.16 is quite low.
How strong is your curriculum? Would you be able to take SAT2 subjects to show what you know?
If you can complete a first degree and apply for grad school, you’d be considered on merit only and most internationals who are admitted also get funded at the grad level.
However, if for some reason you are in trouble (ethnicity, religion, family…) in Croatia, and really can’t wait, look into schools such as Earlham, Macalester, Hendrix. Check out “colleges that change lives” and ask for information there (“request info” or “join the mailing list”)[Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives. One Student at a Time.](http://www.ctcl.org/)
Be aware that international transfers almost never get financial aid.
You may be better off applying to schools in the UK and for English-speaking international programs in Dutch or Scandinavian universities.

Wait, check your messages.
Let me know if you haven’t received the PM.
