Colleges that Dont Judge SAT harshly.. Help

Hey Ccers,

Im just a person who worries way to much. I always think of the negative side and have been worrying so much this year that I am hardly having any fun my senior year. My current gpa is a 3.1 and i reside in Alaska and am white. I have taken the sat twice neither with great luck. 940 and 980.
I am in the top 50 percent and have improved over the years.
EC’s:
•Football: 2 Years Varsity, Lettered
•Soccer: 10 years of competitive /recreational, 3 time Memorial day tournament participant (Texas)
•Golf: 7 Years, Recreational, Attended Multiple Camps and Clinics.
•Local church volunteer for youth group along with 8 years of student learning and active participation. (got letter of recomendation from church leader)
•Two time gold medal winner: Anchorage Youth Ski League
•25 hours/week as a Lifeguard for 13 months+
•Adept with various computer languages and computer software ex. Webpage Design and knowledge of HTML, PHP, Perl.

So being from alaska, decent ec’s, 3.1 gpa and 2 letters of recomendation I am looking at applying to these schools. I was wondering if you guys can give me any idea of how it is looking and if there is a chance. I want to go pre-dental and become a dentist. Also thinking of going business as a backup.

List of Schools:
Arizona State
Arizona
Gonzaga
Florida State (Might be a super reach but being from Ak might help??)
Montana State Bozeman
Texas atm (dad went there)
TCU (Texas Christian)
Washington State
Western Oregon

Please let me know guys and help me get some stress out Thanks
Zac

Those are good schools for you. FSU will be tough, though, mainly because at my info. session the adcom said for out-of-staters to be competitive, they must have an 1100 SAT. You will get in to most of those colleges, but if you want FSU, either retake the SAT or take the ACT.

Hoo thanks alot for the positive look on all of this.
I was wondering if somebody (even you) would look over my college essay that will be going to these colleges. Im thinking of taking sat/act one last time and just trying to wing my way in to fsu.
But there is a 99 percent chance i will get into one of those most likely right? If i hear that my year might go a lot better.

Do you have aim/msn/email? I’ll send you it

wow it must have been difficult to live in alaska since you seem to like warm weather! i’m applying to florida state as well with a 22 ACT, 1040 SAT. i’m considered in-state though. good luck!

TY,
I love both i can quickly adapt.
I really like warmer weather though. Was born in Texas and love being tan haha, im so feminine going tanning haha. Maybe its cause im a lifeguard, ahha.
I only like the cold due to sledding, snowskating and skiing.

Well, almost all of the schools on your list have rolling admissions, so send in your apps. ASAP before the spots fill up!

Rolling admissions?
Would i have to send in my transcript asap?

I just retook 2 c’s to a’s and want that to be on my latest transcript

And for Gonzaga, your SAT score and GPA require an admissions interview ASAP - they can do them by phone but everyone under SAT 1070 they want to have an interview - don’ t delay on setting that up. here are the details:
http://www.gonzaga.edu/Admissions/Undergraduate+Admissions/Prospective+Students/Entering+Freshmen/Prerequisites.htm</a></p>

Carolyn, are most of those colleges very most possible to get into.

Possible, but there are no real safeties on your list that I see. You really do need to get your application and transcript in ASAP to the rolling admissions schools because they operate on a “first come, first served” basis. Are you also applying to the University of Alaska as a back up safety? If so, there’s no problem with your list so long as you really would like to go to U of Alaska. Best of luck!

And, have you looked closely at the admissions requirements for all of the schools on your list? ASU, for example, requires a 3.0 in all of its competency requirement classes or an 1100 SAT. That means A"s in some electives and PE won’t count. You need to compute your GPA according to their standards and be certain you meet it. They may take you on a conditional basis but that it very iffy for out of state. Details:
http://www.vpsa.asu.edu/uga/requirements/exec1.asp?sid=3</a></p>

Also, Texas A&M bases it’s admissions requirements on your class rank. If you’re not in the top 25% of your class, you need a minimum SAT score of 1050, higher if you’re below the top 50%. Since you didn’t say where you rank in your class, I don’t know how you will fit in (min. for top 25% is 920). Because it’s a state school, the fact that your father went there probably won’t make a difference in your admissions chances.

Again, please check ALL of the details about these schools’ admissions requirements.

here is a list of over 700 schools where SAT/ACt testing is optional.

http://www.fairtest.org/univ/optional.htm</a></p>

Being from Alaska, you are pretty much a minority. Try to get the your sat close to 1100 and I am sure you could get into all the schools in your list and who knows, maybe even a really competitive school.
