Colleges that offer Full-Tuition for Families with EFC less than $100,000?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you guys know if there are additional college that offer free tuition for families with EFC less than $100,000. I know so far Stanford and Dartmouth do but those two are really a reach for me. Are there additional colleges out there with this financial aid? Do you guys know a list?

Thanks in advance!

I don’t understand. In order to have an EFC of $100,000, you would have to be a millionaire.

Do you mean families with INCOMES less than $100,000?

There is NO school that would offer need based aid to someone with an EFC of $100,000.

My roommate was on full-tuition (academic) with an EFC of 120k.

As far as insanely good financial aid, you likely won’t find it at non-ridiculously competitive school. Schools just can’t afford to subsidize everyone’s education, unless that student is someone they just HAVE to have, and the endowment is large (see: Ivies).

That being said, you can qualify for full-tuition scholarships with strong academics, or consider a state school and being an RA for free room and board.

I gather your roommate had a merit award for full tuition…not need based aid.

@chalk5 – when you get a chance, please clarify if you are asking about need based aid for families with an INCOME of $100,000, or an EFC of $100,00.

For merit aid, you will need to look for schools that offer merit aid for your stats. It is important to have 1 or 2 academic and financial safeties on your list. These are schools that are incredibly likely admits that you can afford with either no merit, or where you qualify for guaranteed merit.

In terms of being an RA, freshmen cannot be RAs… earning an RA position is very competitive at some schools, so if this is something in which you are interested in pursuing, check with each school to find out the qualifications and the % of qualified applicants who are offered a position. Also, RAs are not granted free room and board at all schools… where I teach they are paid a salary, but are responsible for tuition, room, and board – from the website -

"ORL currently employs 200 students to serve in RA positions in the residence halls on campus.

RAs are dynamic leaders on a floor of residents who create positive communities and coordinate fun & educational events to enhance the on-campus living experience. RAs receive a salary, and if possible, a single room on campus. They are still responsible for paying all tuition, room & board, and fees."

Also…there are no guarantees anyone will actually be hired for a RA job. These are highly competitive at most places. They are not a job you can count on getting.

@thumper1 yup, which is why I specifically mentioned it was a merit award! Obviously no guarantees, but there are a number of things you can do to drastically increase your chances of being hired.

Regarding becoming a RA, at my D’s school it is an extremely competitive job to get and there is no free room/board involved

@chalk5 Are you a US citizen?

Yes. I meant income

Yes. I meant income not EFC. OOPS!

Yes I am!
