A State University of New York school, SUNY Delhi. Its a terrible name for people who live on Long Island or in NYC because there is a school called Adelphi that most people know about and if someone mentions Delhi the response is usually “Adelphi?”

How about Southwest Oklahoma State University? Look at a map. Oklahoma doesn’t even have a southwest! :)

Call me childish, but the name Ball State University made me crack up when they sent me stuff.
Also, though I’m clearly biased, I like Hendrix’s name. Yeah, we’re Hendrix College, spelled like Jimi Hendrix. Because we’re as awesome as he was. 8D

I second AnagramPanda on Ball State name. When I first saw their mail, I was like “Wat the heck … ahahahaha… ahahhahahha … AHAHAHAHAHAHAH…” But that’s not a bad name. Just a very funny one. I don’t know what is the worst name but the most misleading name must be University of Pennsylvania. Everyone thinks of a state school.

Oh, and know what, Ball State University is abbreviated BS U :))

“I think Notre Dame is pretty bad too. It means Our Lady. University of Our Lady. The freak. Not to mention it’s usually pronounced Notre Daaaaaaaim. Terrible.”

The full name is “University of Notre Dame du Lac”. Most schools would kill to have the branding power that “Notre Dame” has.

“I second AnagramPanda on Ball State name.”

Ball State is named as the Ball glass container company (as in Ball canning jars) which is based in Muncie, IN. Still a terrible name.

My pet peeve is all the little colleges that got the legislatures in their states to allow them to rename themselves as universities. I guess they thought “university” sounded more prestigious. Good 'ol American hucksterism, so I suppose it’s to be expected from the folks that get into the state legislatures.

worst: Ursinus, Marlboro, College of Wooster, Pitzer, Sweet Briar

two more: Bard at Simon’s Rock, Skidmore

I don’t know if this makes a difference but wooster is pronounced like the city worcester in Massachusetts. people think it is woooohster but it actually isn’t.:)

Best Name: Clemson
Public school that isn’t “University of <insert state=”“>” yet is the best college in the state of South Carolina, mixes things up a bit haha</insert>

^Lol, not at all biased, huh? But I agree, Clemson is a good college name. Sounds like a Clementine orange. :D

I think Princeton is a good name, as well as Wharton (Penn) and Stanford. My favorite public school name is probably UC Berkeley - it sounds fancy.

Some of the worst names for me are Morehead, William and Mary, Fordham, or Ball State.

Best: Stanford, U of Rochester, Amherst, Carleton, Princeton, Haverford, Wesleyan
Worst: Brown, Yale, Morehead, Duke, Skidmore, Bob Jones (BJ U!)

Best: UCLA, Wharton, Dartmouth, CSU Long Beach (Just because it sounds 10 times more prestigious than it actually is)

I also really like the name Wake Forest for some reason.

Best: Wake Forest
Worst: Lake Forest

Best: Princeton, Yale, Middlebury, Haverford, Washington & Lee, Amherst, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, College of W&M, Bowdoin, Colby, Hamilton, Davidson (I think I could list more that I like. Also, it is required that I add Dartmouth)

Worst: Harvey Mudd, Swarthmore, Grinnell, Rice, Ursinus, Occidental, ehh that’s all I can think of for names that I DON’T like.

I live in Maryland, and as a teenager we always had lean cuisines in my freezer. Whenever I hear of Salisbury University, all I can think about is Salisbury steak lean cuisines. Not gonna lie, I didn’t apply there for a few reasons but that was one of them. I can’t even eat steak, I didn’t want to go somewhere that makes me think of steak.

I go to Stevenson University, formerly Villa Julie College. I wish it was different, just because there are already so many SU’s out there. Villa Julie University would have been nice, but I guess I like Stevenson University. I hate it when people call it Stevie U, though. I’m a science major, so I’m still apart of the Villa Julie College of Arts and Sciences, but I would have loved VJU.

Also, not a 4 year university I think but:

University of Maryland University College.

…what?

And what about “The New School”. One of the most unoriginal names I’ve heard.
