Colleges with best/worst names

^^ And poop haha had to say it. Just kidding though. I also like that name. I think Wesleyan, Georgetown, Princeton, Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Emory, are good names. UC Berkley is good as well because you can just say “Berkley” or “Cal.” I never like Washington University in St. Louis because it’s too confusing, and a mouth full. Also, Haverford? Too close to Harvard.

Transylvania University: best and worst

best: Holy Cross
Worst: Boston College (Not that well known outside New England, most people think of Boston University)

^^^Yeah some of those city schools have issues for state/local/private identity. NYU and U of Rochester come to mind.
Actually for most people I’d guess BC is more well known than BU because of sports.

Best-Princeton. It’s like a school for royal people

Worst-Brown, Rice, Tuft… enough said

Obviously I love “Wake Forest.” Other than that, I really can’t think of any that I love off the top of my head that haven’t already been mentioned, but I have to agree of all the names that I dislike, I hate “Harvey Mudd.” I can’t say it or read it without thinking of the TV show “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.”

Best: Northwestern, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, UCLA, Berkeley, Emory.

Worst: Northeastern, Dartmouth (i think it’s pronounced stupidly), Upenn (sounds like a state school), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Vanderbilt

When I was applying to colleges, my dad always made fun of Smith College’s name. He kept saying that it was a boring name for a college.

'Ruin, UCLA as one of the best names? Gee, you could likely list most acronyms.

I agree that Smith is a very boring name for a school. Williams too.

Best: Columbia, Berkeley, USC, NYU

Worst: Ball State, Vanderbilt

I like Aurora University and Drexel University.

Worst: Slippery Rock and Harvey Mudd College. No offense to anyone.

Colgate reminds me of the toothpaste, but I would not classify as one of worst.

Ball State does have the best slogans as a result of their name: I would rather Ball U than I U.

Worst: Glenn Beck University

P.S. It’s not a real university

Worst: Skidmore…skidmarks…

Liberty U Flames:

Definition of irony: A school that regulates what movies, music, dating partner youre allowed to have and is virulently anti-Gay. Liberty…Flames…you just couldnt make this stuff up.

Could be that most people out of the area are not aware that BC and BU are two different schools.

There were at least three schools that had acronyms of “USC”, but one of them changed its name so that its acronym is no longer “USC”.

^ University of Southern California, University of South Carolina, and … what is/was the third?

University of Santa Clara, which changed its name to Santa Clara University to avoid being confused with the other “USC” schools (primarily University of Southern California).
