What are some good colleges or universities that offer financial aid for international students? Most of the colleges I want to apply to are extremely expensive and do not offer aid for international students and if they do, it’s very little.
I plan to study something in the business field? Maybe marketing or management?
Thank you!
Well it is a question asked here frequently with limited answers, you can use search feature for any previous answers but you might do better in the International student forum.
What are the colleges you would like to apply but don’t give aid to int’s? State schools? And how much aid are you talking about? Many times aid is either based on family income if schools give need aid to int’l or on merit meaning based on gpa and test scores.
By choosing business, you rule out most of the Liberal Arts Colleges (LACs) which provide scholarships for international students to increase the school’s diversity - especially LACs in the south and midwest. LACs do offer degrees in economics, so if that’s a reasonable substitute for you, it would open up other possibilities.
I was thinking of applying to FSU(which has a program with my country of only paying half the tuition, but still it is a lot and that’s the only program i saw in their local website under “financial help”)
I’ve read about liberal arts colleges but I didn’t know they didn’t offer business! I don’t think I could settle for economics since I’m more into the whole marketing side and maybe international business
Thank you!
Actually, some LACs do. For instance, Dickinson has a very good International Management major. It would be a good match for you and they do have financial aid for internationals.
Baruch College may be a possibility, especially if you apply through Macaulay Scholars.
For Marketing, you first need a strong Statistics background - marketing without strong stats has zero professional viability these days (and is typically one of the lowest-paid/least recruited majors).
What’s your parents’ budget?
You’re a rising junior?
Ask your parents how much they’ll spend each year on your college education.
I’m currently a sophomore (school year starts in march, ends in december)
I asked and they said they’re not interested in letting me go to another country(they allow it, but the support is minimum, really. They want me study here at state school, but honestly the education here sucks and the highest ranked university here it’s like the number 1789 or something, I don’t quite remember) Basically, I can ask the government for loan which will be 30k for 4 years which is like 7500 a year and I can ask for a bank loan? There’s this olympiads where I can win a FULL RIDE scholarship for a university here and they have a business program but I really don’t want to like stay since the experience here is so much more different(there’s no residences and you have to stay at home and it’s basically high school, there’s nothing, really) and if I win it, I can cash the prize or stay at their university which would mean i’d have aprox 20-30k more. But either way I’ll figure it out. Basically, my parents don’t support my decision. However, I’d like a university that’s not really like 70-100k a year? I mean something fit for someone who’s on their own? Obviously, I’ll get a job when I’m there and after High school my school lets us go on paid internships to work at banks and stuff for 3-6 months which will probably give me some money too.
I really liked dickinson when I read about it online (the hat society seems pretty interesting) I like that the program is Internationall business and management cause I considered management also and I like this one includes both things. They have an internship program and I honestly am in love with this since I’m a firm believer in learning through action and experience also.
I used to think Notre Dame was a match for me since it’s a pretty big school and they have a good spirit and the students love their school from what I’ve heard? I’m looking for like a school with a lot of activities and stuff like school spirit and that’s like a very sociable school, but at the same time with a good education and it’s not all just fun and games.
Baruch seems pretty nice and it’s in new york! I have relatives in New Jersey, pretty close ones and maybe this will convince my parents to let me go since NY is close to NJ(they’re afraid i’ll go off the rails if I’m abroad) I also have relatives in Florida(they went to university of south florida and my nj relatives went to william patterson) I read about Baruch’s business school being prestigious and it looks like a pretty large school and I like that. I’m used to living in the city, but new york’s a whole bigger city than the one in my country and I think this is the perfect place to study for me? I mean obviously there’s wall street and basically it’s called the city that never sleeps for something right.
I thought about Rutgers since it’s close to my relatives, but like it’s a state school so I’m not sure how much aid they can give out to international students.
Thank you!
Check out some of the schools on the following list:

Many of them are LACs (which generally don’t offer business majors). Some of the numbers may be a little out of date. It is not an exhaustive list of all colleges that offer relatively good aid to internationals. However, it may be useful as a starting point.
The University of Richmond is not listed, but probably should be. According to its Common Data Set, in 2014-15 it offered aid to 131 international students. The average amount was $44,030. Richmond does have a business school that offers undergraduate degrees.

hi. International Class of 2019 student here.
I remember being in a similar position last year. I really wanted to do business but then I began to realise that most schools that give aid to internationals do not offer business as a major. But then I realised that it is better to wait for Graduate school to do Business as a major course of study, because doing business at the undergrad level may narrow your focus quite a bit. Doing business undergrad is not even required for a career in business. You could even do Anthropology and Arabic and still get into a good Post-grad Business program.
Secondly, if you need a ton of aid, then you are in a very tight position. Your need means you have to apply for schools that are need-blind for internationals and schools that are need aware but promise to meet 100% of need of all admitted internationals. Trust me, theses schools are NOT easy to get into. If it is difficult for domestic applicants to get into, let’s say, Vanderbilt, why should it be easy for an international? You must get exceptional test scores( ACT 30+ or SAT 2000+ and SAT Subject tests of 700+ on each), a stellar GPA(at least 3.5) excellent LORs, standout extracurriculars and smashing essays to stand a good chance of getting into colleges that dole out a lot of money to internationals(don’t be too scared by this though; many high need internationals have gotten into generous colleges with lower profiles. This is just what you need to be on the safe side).
So, if you want a lot of aid, you must:
- Get an idea of what your parents/sponsor(s) are willing to pay
- Re think your choice of a business major
and - Start working on making your application irresistible by prepping for standardised tests, etc.
Thank you!
