hi I’m a sophomore in high school and I know it seems a bit early to be looking at colleges my sophomore year but I’m thinking of visiting colleges that I possibly want to go to with good vocal and/or music programs. I’ve heard of some good schools such as Wesylan and St.Olaf but I would like to view more to expand my options just in case I’m not accepted to any of these. I’m in choir and I play piano and I do many other extracurriculars such as softball and cross country for my high School. I also attend Chinese school and play travel softball. I’m also Hispanic. Your suggestions will be very helpful! Thank you! :)

*Schools with large scholarships or financial aid will help also :)

*also any schools with Asian studies if possible

What do you think your career goals might be? A young person I know chose University of Northern Iowa because she liked the way the instrumental music faculty and vocal faculty got along with each other! She is preparing for a career as a secondary school music instructor, and she wanted to be able to teach both vocal and instrumental students. She didn’t start out with a scholarship, but after a year she was offered a paid position with the marching band.

Another good music program that isn’t mentioned much here is Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. More Midwesterners seem to have heard of it than people on either coast.

It isn’t too early to be thinking about college, and it isn’t too early to find out how your family can pay for college. Encourage your parents to sit down and run the financial aid calculators at [FinAid! Financial Aid, College Scholarships and Student Loans](http://www.FinAid.org) and encourage them to visit the Financial Aid Forum here for more information and ideas on that subject. When you know what the colleges are likely to expect your family to be able to pay, you will know which colleges are possible without a scholarship, and which aren’t.

I’m thinking of a music career in piano performance, vocal performance, opera and/or music education.
