Haha, I’ve always been fascinated by secret passages (there’s some at the Biltmore estate in NC). I’ve already picked out and applied to most of my colleges, but are there colleges that have secret passages? I’m willing to bet some did as part of the Underground RR, but I haven’t heard any names. Imaginary schools like Hogwarts are not allowed. :D

Well Fordham in New York City has underground tunnels from building to building…

I’ve never heard of a school with “secret passages” exactly, but schools like Rochester (or RIT? I can’t remember), Duke, Fordham, Carleton, etc. have tunnels between buildings. Wake Forest has tunnels too, I think, but they’re closed off because the air isn’t safe.

Columbia has them too

Really? Columbia is one of the schools I applied to. :)

MIT has an entire underground network of tunnels and steam tunnels… exploring the tunnels and finding places no one has ever signed in before is a major activity for some students.

Since campus was built piecemeal, there are apparently many secret spaces where the buildings don’t exactly line up.

Yale!!!

UVA, definitely.

Hogwarts!

i know thats not a college but 5 more days!!

U.Va. has tons of secret traditions, secret societies, and a rich history, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they had secret passageways too.

Berkeley has at least one, from a library to another. Think about your question, though. If you’re looking for really secret passages, chances are few anywhere will have knowledge or tell you about. Good luck on your quest!

MIT is absolutely riddled with secret passages, and an entire hacker culture that is devoted to finding them and using them.

So does Haverford…it’s 1 of 5 “must” things Fords should do before graduating.

I heard a story somewhere about a girl at Wellesly finding a secret room coming off of her dorm that was used in the 20s for alcohol storage. That might be a bit of a rumor, but I’ve heard that it has lots of passages and compartments like that. Gender might be an issue? (I don’t know if you’re a guy or a girl, I mean)

Wellesley does have those passages…steam passages actually, similar to MIT’s. I think it’s officially forbidden to use the passages, but people do it:)

a friends daughter is currently at Holyoke and she found a false wall in her closet behind was hidden liquor from at least 50 years ago.

Duke has a bunch of underground tunnels under east campus - Ive never gone but I heard its a maze down there. But I think u can get in big trouble if ur caught down there or something since its supposedly unsafe

W&M has steem tunnels… and like most schools, you get in trouble if you’re caught in them.

The Wellesley and Holyoke examples were what I had in mind, but I’m a guy. :/

I’d just as soon not get scalded or suspended/expelled in a steam tunnel.

Hmm…that’s true. I suppose it would be more fun to find some…
