Collegiate choice tape on Pitt

I saw a video of a campus tour of Pitt.

I thought the school looked great.

Of course, the tape is two-dimensional.

Does the look great in three dimensions?

Does the building that is one of the tallest educational buildings in the country, look great in person?

How about the building that houses the CBA (College of Business Administration)?

There did seem to be a lot of traffic surrounding the school.

We just went back to Pitt on Monday for another visit. The Cathedral of Learning, the tallest building, is very interesting. If you’ve seen the Harry Potter movies, it’s just like walking into Hogwarts. I believe it is Gothic architecture, someone correct me if I’m wrong. Stone walls and floors on the main floor. High ceilings, balcony levels the first few floors up so you get the high cathedral ceilings. They put wooden tables and chairs/benches in this area and kids use it as a study area. We still haven’t managed to go up to the higher floors and see what they are like. They do have the nationality rooms, too.

I don’t recall the CBA building since we were more interested in the nursing college and UPMC on the other end of campus, but most buildings there do have a distinct look about them.

As for traffic, the first time we visited was on a Saturday and the traffic wasn’t too bad. This time it was on a Monday with classes in session and with downtown Pittsburgh about 10 minutes away and UPMC, the medical center, in full swing there was more traffic, but nothing we couldn’t get through. There are many buildings that are connected by bridges that go over the street and the stop lights allow ample time to cross. Students really didn’t have too much trouble getting where they needed to be. Also, public transportation is free with a Pitt ID.

Yes, the Cathedral of Learning is an awesome building in person too, both on the outside and on the inside. The relatively new CBA building faces on Forbes Avenue, which is one of the two main streets in Oakland, although I think the entrance is on the side street facing the law building. Forbes Avenue is one way “in” and Fifth Avenue is one way “out”. And Stowmom is correct about the time of day. There are definitely “rush hour” times with more traffic. Really, though, I think the hustle and bustle of Oakland becomes on of its charms if you like urban activity. There is never a problem getting where you need to go, either by car or on foot. Most students make good use of the free public transportation, as well at the Pitt shuttle buses.

Haha my favorite thing about Pittsburghers is when they complain about the traffic. I would give my life savings to trade NYC’s traffic with Pittsburgh’s traffic “problems.”

And the Cathedral of Learning still takes my breath away after all these years.

The Cathedral of Learning is the best place. To confirm the above comment, it is gothic, true Gothic to be exact. there are no steel supports in the Commons Area which is amazing to think about when your inside. And they are spending 1.8 million to clean the outside so it will look even better.

tennisguy137, what’s your major?

I’m a bio major, religious studies minor and I’m pre-med.

We were at Pitt yesterday, took our daughter and her roommate back from spring break. Traffic is way less on the weekends, I highly recommend avoiding the weekdays, if possible. The car and helicopter noise drives me nuts, but my daughter said she got used to it after a few days.

Daughter likes studying in the Cathedral, and she had a class there last term.
