COLONOSCOPY How hard is it on you?

I don’t even watch when they take blood from me. No thanks.

So-- the prep was awful. Someone took some 40-grit sandpaper and roughed me up. Every time I thought I could sneak away for some TV or phone time (had the phone in the bathroom too, but it’s not the same…), that time – with all the water they have you drink – was limited to about 10-15 minutes.

The procedure itself was not bad at all. The last thing I remember was being asked to get into position lying on my side, knees up. Next thing I knew, I was awake. No pain whatsoever, though my feet and hands felt like cement blocks. I slept on the way home. Then I ate. And ate. Jersey Mike’s giant Club Supreme – toast.

ETA – they encountered one smallish polyp, which they removed and are going to test. I don’t know whether this means anything, but it wasn’t weeping and it was the same color as the surrounding tissue.

Glad it went well, @prezbucky . Even if the polyp is benign, they may want you back before 10 years anyway, just because of the polyp.

Glad you got through it okay!

I’m a little nervous, but the doc said things looked fine.

I’m pretty sure that’s the kind that is very very very common. I think they test everything to be sure. I had 3 and didn’t worry, and I’m a worrier. But yes, often they’ll put you on a sooner than 10 year plan. I’m on the 5-7 year plan.

I’m circling the day of dread – the Prep Day – and can’t wait! hehe

Mine scheduled for this coming Monday with Sunday as day-of-prep.

Trying to manage the anxiety! :grimacing:

Good luck! DH just got a notice that his is due. I have no sympathy, since he’s on the 10-year schedule instead of 5 as I am.

Thank you! :yellow_heart:

Yep, me too. Just had mine (#4) last week. They took out a small polyp and I’m back on the 5 year schedule.

I just had mine and due to advice here, called the doctor’s office and asked for the pill prep, Sutab. Cost me 50$ because my insurance did not cover it fully, but it was the best 50 bucks I ever spent. The Golightly stuff makes me gag and in the past I’ve had problems with vomiting with it. I was anxious going into the prep because I had read that the pills could cause stomach distress, but it was SO MUCH BETTER! I didn’t even do the low fiber thing the day before, I just swallowed my tablets and drank my ginger water and dilated apple juice. I scheduled the colonoscopy in the early afternoon, which was wonderful! I did not have to get up at 3 AM to take my next tablets instead I could sleep till 7.
No polyps this time, so don’t have to go back for 7 years.

Hope your prep went well and that the procedure itself was quick and easy.

Thank you, Colorado_mom! Prep was good - in the past I’ve been so anxious I couldn’t keep it down (had serious diagnosis from prior colonoscopy which watched up stress).

This time I thought positive, kept a chart of when I had to drink the prep, and checked off each time. Also ate a lot of popsicles, water ice, and chicken boullion along with a few yellow gummy bears - all of which really helped.

Outcome was good - no cancer.

Have now entered the No Food part of prep, have yet to be told when the scope is tomorrow. I have been eating very lightly since last week, and nothing but applesauce and soup over the weekend. Ironically, I’ve spent months learning how to eat more fiber and I am missing my Kashi breakfast!

My SuPrep is lemon, eeeep. DH will sleep actoss the hall but got me a bell to ring (I’m a fainter) and put a camping mattress on the bathroom floor. He’s a keeper

Good luck, greenbutton!

I had similar feelings during colonoscopy prep (though my most common breakfast, about half of the day, is Fiber One and half a banana). Didn’t know what to do with the leftover white bread, which neither of us like anymore. Ended up putting it in the freezer in case we ever run out of bread.

Well, stuffing season is almost here…

My cardiologist wants me to not drink “too much” Gatorade because my body chemistry seems to be sensitive to sugar and triggers Fun Heart Symptoms. It’s only a day, and I’ll be fine (not my first one at all) but I made pancakes to eat tomorrow when I am done!
